I've heard several different edits/mixes of "Fly" on the
airwaves since the song was initially released.
A search of the chat boards didn't turn up much
information on this so I figured I would start a new
thread devoted to it.

The song was a track on their "Floored" album where the
light groove and sunny nature of the song stood out from
the rest of the more alternative and "edgier" material.
However, there was still a little bit of that edge in the
song's instrumental bridge section starting around the
2:04 mark and lasting until the brief "chiquitita on the
borderline..." breakdown before the final verse.

I believe the initial single featured rap from Super Cat
over the instrumental bridge. But, if I recall correctly,
there was also another mix that deleted Super Cat's
contributions throughout most of the song. A US promo on
Discogs shows a "Pop Edit", a "Rock Edit", and a "Radio
Edit" each with a 3:58 printed runtime. Not certain if
that was the actual runtime, however.

Back when the song was still fresh, I remember the pop
stations playing an edit that deleted most of the hard
rocking bridge and just cut straight to the breakdown.

Yesterday, on a 'variety' radio station, I heard an edit
I hadn't come across before; it skipped the bridge and
the breakdown and jumped from 2:05 to 2:35 (beginning of
the last verse) of the "Floored" album version. I'm not
certain if this was an in-house edit or a modern day edit
furnished to radio stations from somewhere else.

Hope someone out there in the know can shed more light on
this. For all you radio folks out there, I'm super
interested to know which edit your station spun!

WPLJ (Hot AC) played the version with the rapping but without the hard rock part.

Back in the mid-00s, one of the stations I did engineering work for had a version where the "wuh-a-wukka-wukkas" were either mixed out, or very much
down. PD wasn't sure where it came from, it was in the automation when he came there. I don't recall being serviced with this when it was current.
Anyone know what this version is? Always found that part of the song kind of annoying.

I have two different promo CDs for "Fly":

PRCD 8098
1. Rock Edit (listed 3:58; actual 4:04)

PRCD 8149
1. Radio Edit (listed 3:58; actual 4:04)
2. Pop Edit (listed 3:58; actual 4:04)
3. Rock Edit (listed 3:58; actual 4:04)

The "Rock Edit" does not feature Super Cat. He's been removed from the mix completely.
The "Radio Edit" features Super Cat and is a slightly different mix than the LP version (not merely an edit). It includes the hard-rocking bridge and "chiquitita" part that follows.
The "Pop Edit" replaces the hard-rocking bridge with the :19 second intro of the song. It then cuts back to the "chiquitita" part. The rest is the same.

We always played the "Radio Edit" featuring Super Cat, but I did hear other stations playing the "Pop Edit."

In the spirit of exhaustive detail, Atlantic also serviced a
promo vinyl 12" with an extended mix, running around 5:00.
This was fairly loyal to the original radio mix, same tempo,
etc., as I recall, just adding an intro and extending some
breaks. I used this mix in our mixshow at the time, so you
might have heard this on specialty shows. I think Promo
Only had this on a Club Series disc, but I'm not aware of
this mix appearing anywhere else.

It also appears on the Atlantic Year In Review 1997 promo compilation CD.

Hot AC WYXR(Star1045)in Philly played the Pop Edit when it was a current,
while the sister CHR WIOQ(Q102) played the Radio Edit.
