I have an edit in my library that removes the "some people
say I look like me dad", spoken vocal over the intro,
which is not the way I ever remember hearing this song on
the radio. Was this edit done in-house or was it released
officially on a promo CD single?
This is a guilty pleasure song of mine, and the lyrics
went right over my head in high school.

I believe that's the "Radio Edit" that appears as Track 1 on the Promo CD Single.
I never even noticed anything unusual about the lyrics. But after you mentioned it, I looked them up and I see what you mean!

I have ESK 41626, which has the Radio Edit on track 1. This version has the spoken intro.

I was in elementary school when this came out and I
definitely remember a few boys always snickering at the
"I'll show you mine, you show me yours" line. Kids...

The only version I know of that has no spoken words over the intro of "C'est La Vie" is the UK CD single. All US versions (album and single), as far as I know, have the spoken words over the intro. It was the US version. (Not sure what the UK album has.) But I can say for certain that the UK single definitely just music on the intro.
And yes, I noticed the double entendre the first time I heard the song. But it sounds like I was older than some of the commenters above when the song came out.
