I have a question regarding the cd single for
"Electric Youth"-specifically this maxi:
https://www.discogs.com/Debbie-Gibson-Electric-
Youth/release/442608
I say it was a promo-the inlay card lists it as a
promo (but with a different catalog# next to the
blurb), but the correct catalog # above the Atlantic
logo. In all my years of haunting record stores I
don't ever remember seeing this commercially
available, but I'm currently in a disagreement with
the original poster of this piece on Discogs who
states he remembers purchasing it in a retail store.
It doesn't list it as a promo anywhere but the
contested catalog#. I was just wondering about the
experts opinions! Did you see it in stores? Did I
somehow miss it? Thanks!

I don't remember seeing it either, but it has a bar code and it's packaged like a retail product.
The bar code is the giveaway. None of the promo-only singles ever had a bar code.

I do remember hearing about there being a CD Single for
it, since there were several versions at the time. I
never bought it or saw it in the stores, though.
There's a listing on Discogs for a US Promo CD Single,
but the picture of the back inlay of the disc has a bar
code, which a promo single would lack. So I don't know
what to make of it. Maybe Discogs just has it labelled
wrong.

Yeah, that was an awesome store! I still miss it to this
day. I was actually on South Street a few days ago and
walked right by where it used to be.
I'm from Northeast Philly, so I spent more time in the
Tower Store that was up in my area, but it was still more
of a thrill to go to the one on South Street. The one at
Broad & Chestnut Street in Center City was also a great
store.

Someone just forgot to remove the "Licensed for
Promotion Only" text on the back of the front insert
when putting together the artwork for the retail single.
It uses the exact same front insert that was packaged
with the PR 2689-2 promo:
https://www.discogs.com/Debbie-Gibson-Electric-
Youth/release/1852957
I have several promo CD singles across different labels
where similar things happened, though it was usually a
case of retail markings or barcodes that someone
neglected to remove form the promo artwork.

No, it was commercial. I own it and bought it in a store
when it was current, probably Tower Records.

I also bought it commercially at the time at a local record store. I liked the song but was blown away by the remixes.
