Interesting, Ed... I don't think I ever realized the commercial single of "All I Wanna Do" is remixed. Can anyone point out some of the specific differences between the single and album version?

To my ears, it almost sounds like a different take of the song.

Yeah, I don't know that it's a different take, but the remix is quite different. You can tell the difference right away, because the remix doesn't have any handclaps over the intro.

I came across a version called the "No L.A. Version" on a TM disc. It's the same as the remix, but it cuts the line on the intro that says "This is L.A."
Anyone have info as to why they might have cut this? Was it on an official promo?

Yes Aaron, I have the official promo--I'll check the details this evening.

I remember hearing that version in NY (probably at WPLJ, not sure about Z-100). Not that anyone would ever confuse NY for LA, but perhaps having the line in there might have turned some NY people off.

The "No L.A. version" appears on the A&M U.S. promo CD single 31458 8317 2. The track listing is as follows (all times listed are the printed times).
Track 1 - All I Wanna Do (Live) 4:30
Track 2 - All I Wanna Do (Remix) 4:12
Track 3 - All I Wanna Do (Remix - No L.A. Version) 4:07

WPLJ actually went beyond this. They played a version with a completely instrumental intro. You can hear it here:

As for the "No L.A. Version" I do remember hearing it on the radio many times in the '90s but not recently. I also can't imagine why that would be edited.

Thanks for the replies! I'm sure Pat will add this great info to the database, since it wasn't mentioned.
Interesting edit, Rich (the PLJ one). Was there a "no talk" intro version or album instrumental available on CD? It's the LP mix instrumental spliced onto the remix.

Could someone shoot me off dubs of the 4:12 Remix and the 4:07 "No L.A." version? I don't believe I've ever heard either of those before but it's been years since I've heard it on the radio so perhaps I'm wrong.

Is there an instrumental version available that can be used to recreate the WPLJ edit with no talking during the intro?

VWestlife, I am not aware of an instrumental version.
Using your cassette playing this version on YouTube, I
attempted to re-create my own WPLJ edit awhile back
using both the original LP Version and Remix. Shoot me a
PM if you want to hear my re-creation. It's not perfect,
as it is actually quite difficult to re-create, at least
for me. I believe that it is just trying to loop the
non-vocal parts and hand claps.

That's a pretty tricky edit, but yeah, I think someone creatively edited out the vocal using parts where there was no speaking.

Nope, I just lined them up in the multi-tracker, and that's the legit LP instrumental spliced onto the beginning of the song. Perhaps PLJ requested it specially from the label.
