I just listened to the version I edited to be the "single version" and it clocks in at 3:21, not the 3:27 time of the Youtube video or the 3:16 time listed at discogs. The edit I made from CD does not have this section at all anywhere in the edit I made:
Girls, girls girls girls girls everywhere
Girls girls girls girls in my hair
I remember the above lines being on the Rhino "New Wave" version and my taking it out (because it wasn't on my 45). Furthermore, the edit I made doesn't have the lyrics:
<Throw another taco on the fire, sweet senorita
Dance with me 'til morning to the Cucaracha beat-a>
that the Youtube video has. My edit matches the album version's first verse lyrics. And if those alternate lines were on my 45 and not available to use on the edit I made, I think I would have labeled it "neo-single version", not "single version" which is how I labeled it.
I have to find my 45 now and see what is going on. There may have been 2 45's for this - both could be US. One could be foreign (i.e. the one on that Youtube video). I'll report back.
This reminds me of Starz' "Sing It, Shout It" 45 version - there are lyrics on the 45 that can't be taken from the album version, which is the only version available on CD (unless someone knows of a release I don't know of). So I edited down the album version to be close to the single version but had to use some substitute lyric lines to get it to have the structure of the single, and I labeled it "neo-single version".

I looked through the F section of my 45s and couldn't find the Fools. I thought, "Wow, this is going to be a lot harder to find than I thought". I knew I didn't throw the 45 out. I have a random huge box of other 45s I bought, completely unalphabetized - things I bought to make single edits, etc., and don't really need for any listening purposes now. So ...I pulled out a 45, and the first one I pulled was ... "It's a Night For Beautiful Girls" by the Fools! Wow, this was a lot easier to find than I thought :)

OK, I'm not going crazy. The version I made for my CDR collection is exactly like the 45 I have, which is very different than that YouTube version. It's definitely a US 45, and here's the info -
EMI America 8036
S500231A
And below are the lyrics (all can be found on the album version on the Rhino CD). Like my recreation, the 45 does not have this section at all:
Girls, girls girls girls girls everywhere
Girls girls girls girls in my hair
Here are the lyrics on my US 45 version (and it is a stock copy with "Sold Out" on Side B):
It's a night, oh yeah, for beautiful girls
It's a night, yes it is, for beautiful girls
Something's gonna happen here tonight, I can feel it
Stay with me 'til morning, I really need it
'cuz
It's a night, oh yeah, for beautiful girls
It's a night - Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah, for beautiful girls
Going to a nightclub, and I'll peek under the table
Maybe find some legs down there, that look like Betty Grable
huh uh uh ...
It's a night, oh yeah, for beautiful girls
What is it?
It's a night for beautiful girls
(instrumental)
Going to a nightclub and I drink some more tequila
Maybe find some legs down there I can give a little feel-a
huh uh uh ...
It's a night, oh yeah, for beautiful girls
What is it?
It's a night, it's a night for beautiful girls
It's a night, huh uh uh
It's a night, huh uh uh
It's a night, huh uh uh
It's a night
*******
If anyone wants me to dub my 45, let me know. It will be interesting to see what Aaron's 45 has, when he gets it.

And btw, I don't think my 45 is a different mix (though I didn't A-B it). So I feel satisfied that what I have is at least 1 US single mix of the song.
As far as the link to the YouTube version, does anyone here actually own that on vinyl and know if it's from a single, and what country it's from?
And CFTP, if you could update your listing for the Fools "(possibly LP version)" to "LP version", that would be helpful... because it's definitely the LP version and not the single version, whether you go by my actual 45 or the version on Youtube. I'm not sure if you'd now highlight it in red for being the wrong version, when it's the only version on CD (and therefore, the "best" version on CD). :)

Hykker: <I haven't actually timed it, but my commercial single has a listed time of 3:16. >
Can you play your 45 and see if it matches mine or the one on YouTube?
Gene: <Hykker, have you ever found a digital source for the single version of "It's A Night For Beautiful Girls?" If not, I may have to see if I can find a really clean needle drop of the single; to my ears, it blows away the LP version.>
If you're ok with the US single version I have, you won't need to do a needledrop because I can send you a lossless file from the CD edit. (However, if you like/prefer the mystery version on YouTube, you'd probably need to track down that 45 and clean it, or clean the YouTube video.)

"The late winter of '80" comment struck me as odd because I began college in September of 1980 but remember distinctly still living at my parents' house when this was a hit on the stations I listened to, meaning I'd heard it on the radio in spring or summer 1980. As it turns out, I was able to determine exactly when I first heard it because I did my own top 30 charts (starting in 1973 or 1974), and this debuted on my top 30 in April of 1980 (peaking at #8). But all this is to say ... if you were hearing it on the radio in "late winter 1980", maybe the 45 was reissued later with the remix (on YouTube) because the 1st mix didn't take off nationally. That would explain a lot. BTW, that YouTube version comes to a cold end, whereas my 45 fades.
It will be interesting to see if a 2nd US 45 mix shows up anywhere. Interested to see what Hykker and Aaron have/get.
Does anyone have any books that would show catalog #'s of every single, and if this one had 2?

Now I"m even more baffled!
Aaron sent me a copy of his single... and it's what we're calling the LP version... it DOESN'T match the video!
I'm going to have to reach out to the maker if this video and find out where the heck he got this... but I can no longer say the version on "Can't Get Enough" didn't appear on a single... because it's clear it did!

"It's A Night For Beautiful Girls" by The Fools was
released (only once) on EMI America 8036 in March 1980
(with "Sold Out" on the B-side). It debuted on the Hot 100
on 4/19/1980 (eventually peaking at #67).
Here are the other Fools singles released by EMI America in
1980/81:
#8046 - I Won't Grow Up / Easy For You
#8072 - Running Scared / Alibi
#8081 - Lost Number / Local Talent

Actually, there was a 4th..."Psycho Chicken"
(beeped)/"Psycho Chicken" (clucked). Mine is on yellow
vinyl SPRO 9330/9331 (which was Capitol's designation for
promo singles that are in some way unique). If I'm not
mistaken it was a bonus with the "Sold Out" album.
IANFBG peaked at #6 on WRKO in early May 1980. OK,
winter runs a bit longer here in New Hampshire...

Gene,
I think I found your mystery version of "It's Night For
Beautiful Girls" from the Youtube video. I knew it was a
later re-recording. The vintage is hard to tell in the
video because it's posted from vinyl.
The band re-recorded a lot of earlier material for a
self-released album in 2003 that they sold on their
website. Here's the Discogs page:
https://www.discogs.com/The-Fools-World-Dance-Party-
2003/release/8460076
On this album they shortened the song title to "It's A
Night" - that's why its posted that way in the video. The
band no longer sells the album however it is for sale on
Discogs.
As for time of the EMI 45, I was confused by some of the
previous posts. I dubbed a stock 45. It has a listed
time of (3:16) but an actual time of (3:18).
But I thought I read that Aaron's dub of the 45 matches
the LP Version?
My deadwax info is:: S45 500231-A-23

Ah-ha!!! So the version I like so much wasn't even released until 2003... well, now I know (and I won't play it).
MM, I see your problem with the length; the LP version is about 3:55.
I just compared the two again and found that although the mix is identical there are a couple of edits:
Remove 1:14 - 1:30
from what is left, remove 2:35 to 2:49 AND REPLACE with the vocals from 1:36 to 1:51.
Cut off about the last 22 seconds of the LP version and at that point, you should have the single version. The fade appears to start about 3:05 but sounds like it starts at 3:10.
I agree with others that somewhere between 3:18.250 and 3:18.500 the song is completely faded.

JUKEBOX (DON'T PUT ANOTHER DIME) - Flirts
CHANGE - Tears For Fears (45 version)
TALKING IN YOUR SLEEP - Romantics (LP and

Billboard Top Hits 1984
EMOTION - DFX2

THE FANATIC - Felony
SHINY SHINY - Haysi Fantaysee
MIRROR MIRROR (MON AMOUR) - Dollar
THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM - Fun Boy
Three
BLACK COFFEE IN BED - Squeeze
SEND ME AN ANGEL - Real Life (45 version)
TRUE - Spandau Ballet (45 version)
- sound is fine, but I prefer Billboard Top Hits 1983,

The version of "True" included here appears to be the
proper commercial 45 version since the Billboard
Top Hits 1983 compilation runs a little longer due
to a wrong edit mentioned on the topic regarding this
song.
