This was going to be Judas Priest's next big pop hit... until, of course, it wasn't. Only made it to #44 on the mainstream rock charts and didn't break the hot 100 at all.

What I'm trying to determine is what was plugged to radio: an edit of the LP version, or the "Hi-Octane" mix that was released in both a short and long edit.

The LP version ran approximately 5:33.
The video version ran approximately 4:38.
The Hi-Octane short mix ran approx. 3:59.

The 7" single promos listed in Discogs list a running time of 3:59 which would match the Hi-Octane mix, but only one is labeled as the mix. Both identify as edited and mixed by Freddie Bastone.

It appears the video edit was released in the UK as the single, as the 7" single lists a run time of 4:39 (and does not mention Freddie Bastone).

If you happen to have a promo sent to radio for this song, I'd love to hear what you find!

No worries, John. :-)

With John's help, I've been able to determine the commercial 45 IS the "Hi-Octane Mix Edit."

The bad news is to correctly re-create the single edit involves some out of sequence edits of the full mix.

Grab the first four bars of drums starting at 6:26 to 6:32. (I ended up boosting this audio a couple of db to better match the rest of the mix.)

Then pick up with the downbeat at 30 seconds in.

4 & 1/2 seconds after that, cut to 1 & 1/2 seconds before the lyrics (you should have two downbeats before the lyrics).

The next verse is skipped entirely, taking us to the guitar solo. The edit here happens after the first part of the chorus, after the word, "other" on the downbeat of one, when the drums suddenly sound bigger.

It's then a simple fade in the last 15 seconds, ending about 3:56. I hear all of the word "cover" in the fade but nothing beyond that. The repeating beats that follow the word "cover" in the long version are not audible on the tail of the 45.

The single dub I have actually runs about .2% SLOWER than the mix I'm working on from "Priest, Live & Rare" (released only in the UK and Japan).

I apologize for not getting more specific times; once I started chopping the song into pieces it became tricky to identify the "true" edit points of the original, complete file. If anyone would like more details on the edit, let me know and I will help where I can.

Glad my 45 dub could help out. In doing research way back
on what tracks to carry in my digital library from them,
that song popped up.
