my commercial 45 for the mills brothers song 'get a job'
issued as dot 15695 contains lyrics while the cdr version
i have has NO lyrics....also.....the cdr version is dry
while the 45 has re-verb....i don't know where i got the
cdr version from, but, does the lone cd entry contain
lyrics starting at the 0:18 of the song as 'every morning
about this time she gets me outta my bed....'

Ed, I don't own the lone domestic CD referenced in the database. But I do
own the song on the 1995 Ace UK import V/A CD, "Dot Records-Cover To
Cover....Hit Upon Hit" (CDCHD 609). I have sent it to you, for analysis
against your 45. What I sent you runs a few seconds longer than the listed
time of the CD in Pat's db, but I'm almost positive an early fade is all that
you'll need to do, to get an exact match for the 45. This song was their
first recording for Dot. And since they'd already been hitmakers for over
25 years by '58, I'm sure they had use of the "A" studio this day, because
the audio quality on this track is absolutely superb.

Sorry, Ed. I misunderstood your opening post. You stated that your CD-R
version, of unknown origin, had no lyrics at all. I knew what I sent you at
least had lyrics. I left further analysis to you. Sorry you are frustrated.

I'm just now browsing Amazon. There is a CD released in 1997, on
Universal/Spectrum (Amazon does not note that this CD as an import),
that does includes "Get A Job". It's offered for just over 7 bucks, so I just
ordered it. I only saw one used copy of that db CD on Heartland, via eBay,
and the merchant wanted well over $30, for a VG copy, so I passed. When
I receive the CD, I'll only post again if it does feature lyrics you need,
starting at :18.

I too have that Ace CD containing the song in nice sounding stereo, however
it is missing the LEAD vocal. The backing vocals are present, however. I too
found this strange, when comparing with my mono source that DOES have a
lead vocal.

Pat, does the stereo version on the lone DB entry on that Heartland CD have
a lead vocal (that starts at 0:18)?

jim was kind enough to send me his recently acquired cd
version file with the proper 45 version on it and it
matches except you'll need to fade it out from 2:24 to
2:30, because the vinyl 45 only runs 2:30.....this 45 run
time info s/b added to the db....
