The song "What The World Needs Now Is Love" by Jackie DeShannon is currently listed in the database as being in mono on the Time Life disc "Classic Rock: 1965 Shakin' All Over." This is actually not true, though. There has been a bunch of stereo reverb added to the track.
What's interesting is that this does sound like a dedicated mono mix and not just a fold-down of the stereo mix. It's too bad that someone tried to make it sound stereo by adding all the extra reverb.

The mono version is available on the Ace UK Jackie DeShannon "Complete Liberty and Imperial Singles Vol. 2" CD.

This song was re-issued in early 1970 as a tie-in to its appearance in the movie "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" (I saw the movie, but don't remember the song being in it, however the label claims it was). The stereo side of my promo single is (E) much as aaronk described it.
This may have been a promo-only release though...it has a non-standard Imperial catalog # (SP-23 A/B). It also has a red label, unlike standard Imperial promos of that era.

Wondering when this song first appeared in true stereo. It was on the LP of the
day, "this is Jackie DeShannon", but stereo content unknown. It was also
issued on numerous compilation LPs over the years up to the CD era.

I have this song on an lp I came across in
my collection tonight. Various artists lp
Liberty LST-7500 The Original Golden
Greats. The opening of the song is in the
right channel, but as soon as Jackie
starts singing, the entire track is in the
left channel with reverb in the right
channel. Terrible sounding rechannel job.

Coincidentally, I too have a copy of the "Original
Golden Greats" LP mentioned. Same matrix number and my
copy also has a badly re-channeled version of the song.
