The recent Mott The Hoople thread got me thinking about "Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett. The BBC didn't like the line "I've got my Hush Puppies on", so for British airplay he changed the line to "I've got my hiking shoes on". I don't think the latter has ever appeared on CD.

It's not on CD anywhere I know of. ABC/Anchor issued this as a 45 single in the UK back then. Wonder if the tapes still exist?

Was the "hiking boots" version ever released the the U.S.? I remember hearing that version on several AC stations back in '74. Was it on the original album?

No, only on the UK 45 single. Those stations may have gotten import 45 singles of this. Not on any LP I know of.

To LunarLaugh:
It appears in the YouTube video the 45 is a domestic release, so maybe there were some copies released in the US with "hiking shoes".
Or maybe the YouTube poster used a different audio file than the picture suggests...
Can anyone out there confirm anything??
Andy

Andy, here's what I have:
Dunhill 4385 DJ 45** (CSM pressing)
Dunhill 4385 stock 45 (CTH pressing)
Goldies 45 2687, yellow-label first reissue (CP pressing)
All three are nattily attired in Hush Puppies.
(** The DJ 45 was identical to the stock: stereo, with "The Wino And I Know" on the flip.)

Andy, my guess is the audio doesn't match the photo. At
least I've never come across a U.S. pressing with the
"hiking shoes" lyric (yet).

Only speculation, but as I mentioned upthread I did
hear this version occasionally back in the 70s (though
not at any station I worked at), possibly the stations
that played it used a music service. Seems odd that
they'd even be aware of a small lyric change on
British copies back then, much less go out of their
way to program it. That having been said, I've never
come across a copy of this anywhere either.
