Last week, I received my CD order for the Bobby Hebb CD "Sunny", from Hip-O Select. (Catalog # B0002862-02). In addition to still another CD appearance for the smash hit "Sunny", this CD also features the U.S. CD debut of the Top 40 hit, "A Satisfied Mind". This track appears in stereo, and its running time is (2:43). The CD packaging is also unique; it exactly simulates the 1966 LP - it also features a tough, cardboard outer housing (albeit CD sized); and a papery plastic inner sleeve, just like we slid our old albums into. The database currently shows this track to be unavailable on a domestic CD - happily, this is no longer the case.

The Hip-O Select releases have turned out to be very problematic for inclusion in the database. The ground rules for years have been that I will not include cd releases that are not in general distribution channels and up until very recently, the Hip-O select releases were available through Hip-O Select exclusively. They recently have become available through Collectors' Choice Music and distributed to various retailers through the CCM distribution system.

Early on I decided that the Hip-O Select cd's were not eligible for inclusion in the database and I never picked up the Hip-O Select cd's as they were released and since these are limited edition cd releases, many of the original Hip-O Select cd releases are no longer in print. Even if I wanted to include them in the database now, it would be a daunting task to track down all the releases that are now out of print.

I follow your logic here, Pat. To go back would be quite difficult. Might I suggest that, and ONLY for those rare cases where such a release includes a song's 1st and ONLY CD appearance to date, that some notation be considered. Thankfully, there are not very many of these "Currently Unavailable On Domestic CD" songs still in your database, Pat. And a change regarding availability of any of THOSE few titles is probably of particular interest to your subscribers. You correctly state there were/are limited quantities made on some of these - isn't that all the more reason to let us know about these new ones, so we can order them in a timely fashion, before they "dry up?" I think most of us order our CDs on-line now; most of my best purchases lately have come from these Rhino Handmade/Hip-O Select "Boutique, Collector label" types. I've had no problem at all getting them LATELY, but you're right, it was indeed a problem before. As a result, why bother going back and listing their older product, when they didn't then meet your availabilty standards? I wouldn't. But, now that they do, through CCM, maybe you'd now consider showing only their NEW release information, going forward.

my commercial 45 for the bobby hebb song 'a satisfied mind'
issued as philips 40400 states the run time on them label
as 2:43 but actually only runs 2:40...you'll need to pitch
up the lone db entries on the cd 'sunny' to 80bpm's to
properly replicate the vinyl 45....thanks to everyone in my
quest to track down this elusive song on cd....THANKS!!!
