can anyone shed some light on an issue me and todd/paul have been mulling........in whitburn's book "top pop singles 1955-93" he claims that the first release of after 7's song "heat of the moment" was issued in 1989 and entered the top 100 charts on 10-21-89 as virgin 99204, which is the same catalog number as the version that made the charts on 11-24-90.......he claims that the first release had a run time of 4:20 and the re-release had a run time of 6:10........i've never located a 6:10 run time on a single.....BUT........after looking back at the actual top 100 charts from that time the billboard charts state the single version as 99704......has anyone ever had the 99704 single in their collection???????.........it is possible that whitburn got the 6:10 run time for the re-release because the 12" has a version called " 12" one world remix" which runs 6:18 in length.........the question is, does anyone have the virgin 99704 12 inch or cassingle of the song "heat of the moment"..........the single was only released as a 12" and cassingle...........no 45 was ever issued as 99704, according to the billboard charts........

I have the promo single (Virgin 2753), but the disc is packed away. It's one I could dig for if you wanted me to look. In my database, the versions are 1)"Radio Heat" 2)"Percuss-A-Pella" and 3)"Extended Heat." I don't have the times listed, but I can try to locate the single.

the plot thickens.........i went back and looked at the actual billboard charts from 1991 when "heat of the moment" re-entered the charts....the catalog number is listed as virgin 4-96553 and NOT 99204 OR 99704......my conclusion is the reason the song re-entered the charts on jan 26, 1991 was because they issued a 12" version of the song with the cat # virgin 96553......the cassingle issed in 1989 was issued as virgin 99204 and NOT 99704 which billboard carried in error........billboard must have mistaken the cat # as 99704 when it first hit the charts and not the correct cat number as 99204....
MY conclusion.......all the books should be revised to show the song peaking the week of feb 16, 1991 at number 19 as the 12" version issued as virgin 96553 and NOT virgin 99204 or 99704.....

Here is the official RR story on this one:
All the books have now been revised to show the catalog number of Virgin 99204 for both the 7" vinyl single and the cassette single re-entry. Both are the same version and both run 4:20.
The 12" really has nothing to do with this at all. Billboard was notorious for showing wrong catalog numbers during the early 1990s. This is where we got confused and put in the 12" number by mistake.

Hey Ed, I can see I need to clarify some things here.
1. I've worked for Record Research since 1992 (shortened to RR). This was mentioned in a previous post. Due to Pat's tremendous research and the great posters on this board, I've been able to correct a lot of 45 times for the Pop Annual book.
2. From 1989-91, there was a lot of confusion about all the different single formats (7" vinyl, 12" vinyl, cassettes, CDs) and once in awhile Billboard would put a wrong catalog number on the chart (I was a collector at that time and I was sometimes confused trying to match up the numbers). By 1992 they really got it together and have done a fine job ever since!

To anyone who has After 7's "Heat of the Moment" on promo CD single, could someone please post the run time info for the tracks?
Also, can anyone verify if the "Radio Heat" version on the promo single is identical to the commercial single?

I have two different promo CDs for this one. I'll pull them out shortly and provide the info.

Virgin PRCD 2753
1) Radio Heat (listed 4:20; actual 4:19)
2) Percuss-A-Pella (listed and actual 4:04)
3) Extended Heat (listed 6:57; actual 6:58)
Virgin PRCD 3605
1) Radio Heat Edit (listed and actual 4:00) (This version starts with opening beats but doesn't go into the main music hook right away. It has a rhythm section with some ad libs for several seconds first.)
2) US Single Version (listed 4:29; actual 4:28) (This is a different mix than the "Radio Heat" version, starting with only a few opening beats and then the music starts.)
3) One World Single (listed and actual 3:49)
4) One World 12" (listed 6:18; actual 6:17)

Thanks, Aaron, for confirming the difference between the "Radio Heat" version and "US Single Version" on your promo CD singles. I have a couple more questions...
1) Pat reported earlier in this thread that the commercial cassette single runs 4:20 (this info hasn't yet been entered into the database). This is :08 shorter than the "US Single Version" Aaron reported on the promo CD single. So are these two versions the same, with the "US Single Version" simply running :08 longer? Or are they different in other ways?
2) Does anyone recall which version was played most often on Top 40 radio? I was living overseas at the time and don't remember Armed Forces radio playing this song much at all.

My suspicion is that the "US Single Version" on my promo CD isn't the US single version at all. I would assume the cassette single contains the "Radio Heat" version from the first promo CD.

paul,
this one i've wondered about for awhile as my post in the db delineates.
after 7 "heat of the moment"
virgin 99204
side 1
1-heat of the moment (remix) (4:20)
side 2
1-heat of the moment (instrumental) (4:40)
these descriptions and run times come from the cassingle itself and NOT the sleeve.
the sleeve states the following
heat of the moment
heat of the moment (inst.)
the credits say on the sleeve say
written by
la reid & babyface
produced by
la & babyface for la'face inc
co-produced by
de'rock & kayo for la'face inc
the credits on the cassingles face say
produced by la & babyface for la'face inc
co-produced by de'rock & kayo for la'face inc
remixed by la reid & babyface
no mention anywhere about a "radio heat" version anywhere
i will check my 3" cd single when i get to my house tonite.
hope this helps

Thanks very much, Ed, for the detailed commercial single info. Also, many thanks to Aaron for recently sending me a copy of the "Radio Heat" version, the "Radio Heat Edit", and "U.S. Single Version" from his "Heat of the Moment" promo CD singles for my analysis. I've had a chance to review them all and the results are interesting...
==> The "Radio Heat" version is identical to the 45 version as it appears on the group's Very Best of CD (Virgin 42756), except the channels are reversed on the Very Best of disc, which also has the song fading out a couple of seconds sooner.
==> The "Radio Heat Edit" is an edit of the "Radio Heat"/45 version (there are two edits altogether).
==> The "U.S. Single Version" is identical to the LP version, but runs :03 longer in length due to a slightly longer fadeout.
So it looks like we can finally close the book on this one at long last!

I just discovered a THIRD US promo CD single for "Heat Of The Moment". The eBay seller lists the following tracks:
1. One World Mix 7" (3:50)
2. One World 12" (6:16)
It also has a strange catalog number: PRCD Gemma. I would assume that these are the same two tracks found on PRCD 3605.

The track list for the commercial 3" CD single (VUSCD 7)
is as follows:
1. Heat Of The Moment (7" One World Remix) (3:50)
2. Heat Of The Moment (12" One World Remix) (6:17)
3. Sayonara
4. Heat Of The Moment (Album Version) (4:25)
I can confirm that the 7" One World Remix is different
from the Radio Heat and US Single versions.
