I see in the database that there exist a 45 edit and DJ 45 edit, which cut ~1:30-2:00 from the original version.

Can anyone describe whether and how either of these edits can be cut from the LP version?

Thanks -

Eric, instead of a description, which is always very high-risk to try to re-create a specific edit from, I will instead shoot you out mp3's of both of your requested edited versions, when I get a spare moment over the next couple of days. This way you can digitally edit them with confidence!

there is a CD version of the 45 edit. It's on a Billboard R&B 1982.

Thanks, Jim. I'll report my findings to the board!

Thanks to the always valuable help from Jim, I can pass along that the actual run time of the long DJ side of Earth, Wind & Fire's "Let's Groove" is 4:05, not 3:55 as stated on the record label. This very closely mirrors the printed vs. actual run times of commercial 45 copies.

Does anyone know if the 6:43 length extended dance mix (possibly labeled "special remixed holiday version" or "disco version") has ever appeared on CD, import or domestic?

I have it on a 2 CD set from France. It's a Sony Music product from 1994. It does run 6:45

Ver 4766132 -- Culture Dance Vol 3

Cd also has the 12" version of Ray Parker's Ghostbusters I've found nowhere else.

That's IT! And that Ghostbusters 12" is quite a find, too... now I just have to find a copy of this CD compilation. :)

Thanks for the info!

The LP version on The Eternal Dance runs too fast,
by about 2% (could be between 1.5% and 2.5%; I didn't spend
too much time with it.)

A better source for the LP version is Best Of Vol. 2
(1988). Sounds very nice on this disc, too.

The promo 45, which runs an actual 3:31, states "Specially Remixed Edit" on the label. I did a careful comparison, though, with the LP version, and there is nothing remixed. It's simply a different, out-of-sequence edit of the LP version, whereas the commercial 45 is a straight edit of the LP version.

Which version had the radio airplay? The promo 45 or 45 version?

Nowadays, all you hear is the LP version. I carry the
commercial 45 version in my own library for events.

Whenever I am asked to play this song at an event, I always go with the promo 45 version. The intro is better for the dance floor, and it's 35 seconds shorter. Win-win!

I would imagine both versions were played on top 40 radio back in '81. There is a separate promo 45 that has the commercial single version on it. I'm not sure which promo 45 was serviced first.
