Since all 3 of the above mentioned artists have top 40 hits, I feel this question isn't out of place here:
Does anyone know if the new anthologies, released by Renaissance Records, for Jigsaw, Pilot, and Chris Thompson, used tape sources or vinyl sources? Renaissance has a reputation lately for using vinyl, although certainly in the case of Pilot and Jigsaw, all the songs are already out on CD, and it would be just as easy (if not easier) to transfer the songs from other CDs than to start from scratch (and scratched LPs) and use vinyl sources.

Gordon, I recently read on another board that a recent buyer of the "(Chris Thompson &) Night" LP contacted the Renaissance label, sure his purchase was a vinyl dub. They were TOTALLY evasive about what source (vinyl or tape) was actually used for the CD. Whenever I see an "only CD appearance" on the Renaissance label, which, frustratingly, is happening more and more of late, I ALWAYS assume their stuff to be a vinyl LP transfer to CD. From all I've read and seen on-line about this label, I'm sad to report, buyer beware!

I had forgotten about that -- that the Night LP that was reissued on Renaissance was from vinyl. This Chris Thompson "Best Of" is a different release but history would suggest this is from vinyl. However, with Jigsaw and Pilot, it could go either way, especially since all the songs have been on CD before. Anyone bought these and know?

I have since bought both of Renaissance's Jigsaw and Pilot anthologies -- and both are from tape sources! Since all the songs contained on those CDs have previously been issued on CDs (from tape), they could have easily gotten those CDs to use as sources. However, the Chris Thompson album has not been issued on CD previously, and I'm afraid to buy that one, as they have no CD (with tape source) to use as a source and probably would have used a cleaned vinyl source. But if anyone knows differently, please report here. The Night CD that Renaissance issued came from vinyl, so I'd bet the Chris Thompson CD does, too.

Ah - Pat, I just checked your database for these 3 releases and I see that on the Chris Thompson one, you wrote "sounds like it was mastered from vinyl". So that answers that. I'm sure the rest of the CD was too.

Wanted to revive this thread to bring up something I noticed regarding "Sky High." After years of owning the song, and having it on AM Gold 1975, Super Hits Of The Seventies, Vol. 15 and Sounds Of The Seventies - AM Top Twenty, has anyone noticed a glitch at about :36-:37 in on the word, had, as he sings "had made it to the top..."?

And, as crazy as it sounds, did the lead singer of Jigsaw have a head cold when the song was recorded?
