Chris,

I recommend you sign up for Pat's database. It's a VERY low annual fee, and you'll find you can input your titles above and find what (US domestic) CDs they are on. That will narrow your list as some of the above are indeed on CD!

15.) Five Satins - I'll Remember (In The Still Of The Nite)

Under various titles...In The Still Of The Night/Nite/ I'll Remember.....this is one of the most reissued songs of all time.

40.) Tommy Edwards - It's All In The Game

Which version? 1951 or 1958? Both are on cd....the stereo mix has a lot of echo on it while the 45 is dry, yet if you fold the stereo mix down to mono, all of the echo disappears.....so that must just be how it was recorded and not an added effect to the song....

Hi David,

I have signed up for his online database, and have his 10th edition book.   I have done massive research on these songs in the database and on the net and have not found a CD version for any.

thank you for your response

Thanks Tom

The Five Satins song I have on CD, but it differs from the time in the Whitburn book. The time in Whitburn is 2:30 and most all of the copies are o/a 3:01. Is the 45 time really o/a 3:01?

Also, the Tommy Edwards song is from 1958. The time in Whitburn is 2:25 but I have not seen any songs less than 2:37 on CD. Is the 45 time really o/a 2:37?

thank you
Chris

Bird on My Head is on this out of print Japanese CD:

http://www.amazon.com/Music-David-Seville/dp/B0000D8RVJ

I'm sure you can probably find a used copy somewhere for a reasonable price.

Quite a few timings are incorrect in the Whitburn books, because he mostly goes by the time printed on the label, which is frequently wrong. We have corrected many of them here on the board, which Pat adds to the database, but it doesn't look like anyone has looked at those two yet. My guess is the 2:25 time for "All in the Game" is a typo.

Mills Brothers "Get a Job" is in the database. Is that not the hit version?

"Melody of Love" by David Carroll I know for a fact has never been issued on CD. That's one of my top wants myself, and I've spent hours looking for it. It's not out there.

ahhh, now I see why certain songs are on your list, Chris! You've done some great research and your post will result in a priviliged few who have 45s to perform some analysis and then possibly database updates for Pat!

Billy Vaughn and His Orchestra - La Paloma is on the Varese comp "Melody of Love: The Best of Billy Vaughn" according to the database (and, the CD itself). It is stereo there, and from 1958. I am not familiar if this version is the 45 in stereo, but no indication is given in the database, so I have assumed it is (not being overly familiar with the song). Hot 100 Annual states timing 2:10. Actual on the CD is 2:29, so it's either a Whitburn error or the database needs updating. This is where the board springs into action to result in a database update if necessary, with certain members having 45s to verify against.

Larry Williams - Bony Maronie. Whitburn time 2:40, CD times ~3:05.

McGuire Sisters - May You Always. Whitburn time 2:21, CD times ~2:56.

Quin-Tones - Down The Aisle Of Love. Whitburn time 2:39, CD times ~2:48.

Renato Carosone - Torero. Whitburn time 2:50, CD time 3:01.

While that is true for the earlier editions, in the latest "Hot 100 Annual" book I corrected A LOT of timings. Hope everyone here bought a copy:)

Hi Paul,

yes, I have the new Hot 100 Annual and many corrections have been made. There are still anomalies however, and I'm sure this board will get to the bottom of many for the next edition!

Paul, thank you for resolving this song's time. I appreciate your help.

Are you affiliated with the Whitburn publication? I apologize if you are for my lack of knowledge. I am new and don't kow everyone here and what they do.

thanks again

"May You Always" did make it to CD on MCA in Stereo back in the late 1980's-1990's time frame. The disc it was on was a McGuire Sisters hits compilation. And was superb sounding to these ears.
