I came across a very comprehensive site online at www.mcarchives.com. There is a listing of every Mariah Carey known to man, including promos from the US and around the world. Although it does not list run times, it does have the catalog number and track list for every CD. For example, "Vision Of Love" was actually issued in the US on a promo CD with an "Edit" and "Album Version" (in addition to the 1-track LP version promo). Here's the info:

5" CD-single from the USA (1152)
CSK 74239
promo in gatefold sleeve
Tracklisting:
1. Vision of love (Edit)
2. Vision of love (Album Version)

The reason I bring that one up in particular is because there is no note in the database about DJ copies running a different length. Perhaps one of our expert promo/Mariah collectors can add the run time info on this one and others that are missing from the DB.

Aaron, there is something fishy.

CSK 74239 is the catalog number for the "Make It Happen" US promo CD, out around two years later.

Sounds like that "Vision of Love" entry may have the wrong catalog number?

I have contributed with some items and corrections on MCArchives, it has been very helpful in identifying and verifying which Carey items I was interested in over the years. Probably the best Carey reference on the web.

That is fishy, Johann. Is the track listing for the "Make It Happen" promo 1. Edit 2. Album Version? If so, then perhaps someone just put the wrong song title with that catalog number.

I checked the JonesTM(Century) database, and it only shows one version, running a little over 3:21, which is on a handful of their Golddiscs and back Hitdiscs. Since they were already pressing Hitdiscs by 1990, I suspect any label edits would have been included on one Hitdisc or another.

Aaron, I just pulled my CSK 74239 promo CD single for "Make It Happen", and that appears to be exactly what has happened; Cut 1 is "Edit", and Cut 2 is "Album Version."

Aaron, the owner of MCArchives confirmed it is wrong as I suspected, and changed that "Vision Of Love" catalog number to unknown. He does not have a copy and he is unsure as to its existence. I personally don't think a two track promo was ever issued for "Vision Of Love".

I'm pretty sure the 45 version is simply the album version.

Thanks for following up, Johann. In any case, it's a pretty good site for getting MC info on all of her releases.

Jim, thanks for checking your promo for "Make It Happen." Another mystery solved!

I think I can fill in the rest of the mystery. I actually have the 5" CD-single promo in gatefold sleeve

CSK 73348

Vision of love

Nowhere on the actual CD single or the gatefold sleeve does it list versions or times or descriptions or anything like that.

It contains one track which clocks in (actual time) at 3:28

I don't have this song on any album but I don't believe it was edited at all.

Would someone with the "Make It Happen" dj cd single please pass along the running time of the edit and LP version?

Sure, Pat.

1-Edit (listed 4:05; actual 4:04)
2-Album Version (listed 5:07; actual 5:06)
