Ed:
According to Joel Whitburn in his Top Pop Singles 1955-1999 book, there were three promo CD singles issued for Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody". The catalog numbers for these discs are Atlantic 8567, 8658, and 8603.

Ed:
Make sure you're looking in Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-1999 book and not Pop Singles Annual. He lists the promo CD information for "Are You That Somebody?" in the right hand column and also mentions additional promo CD info in the accompanying comments. If you still don't see it, let me know and I'll scan the page from the book and e-mail it to you.

I used to play the version called "Edit" on one of the promo singles, which started off with just music (no Timbaland), and then Aaliyah singing the first verse. I believe this was the version that most top 40 stations played.

Revisiting an old one, Aaron do you have a run time for the 'Edit' version?

Thanks, Aaron! I actually saw a video of the edit online a couple months ago and it ran 4:10 too. Don't ask me where I saw it because I don't remember, lol.

I do not own a promo CD single for this, but my friend Tom does own one. His, however, is a different stock # that Ed has just provided for his (Tom's is PRCD-8658). Tom's inventory note states that his promo CD single also contains two versions, but they are denoted differently than Ed's (Tom's states "Edit" and "LP" versions.) I will ask Tom for more PRCD-8658 specifics the next time I speak with him.

Jim, the promo that you reference with the "Edit" version is the same one that I have on my Promo Only CD. It has a shorter, instrumental intro (sans Timbaland).

Ed have you checked the actual running time of your dj cd single? The reason I ask is that if it is truly the album version it should run more like (4:25) not (4:07).

Okay, I finally pulled all 3 CD-promo singles for "Are You That Somebody?" by Aaliayh. Here's the lowdown:
Atlantic 8567:
1. Album Version (listed 4:07 - runs 4:25)
2. Instrumental (listed 4:26 - runs 4:25)
Atlantic 8658:
1. Edit (listed and runs 4:10) - This is the "non-Timbaland intro" version mentioned by Aaron above
2. Album Version (listed 4:07 - runs 4:25)
Atlantic 8603:
This is a special "Radio Dolittle" disc with an announcer and dialogue from the movie sprinkled over and in-between the 5 cuts by different artists.
1. Are You That Somebody? - Aaliayh (no time listed - runs 4:18, with the announcer talking over the ending).
2. Woof Woof - 69 Boyz
3. In Your World - Twista & The Speed Knot Mobsters
4. That's Why I Lie - Ray J
5. Ain't Nothin' But A Party - Sugarhill Gang

The database currently shows the following general comment for Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody":
(dj copies of this cd single run (4:25) the )
Here appears to be another instance of a programming glitch that's caused the rest of the comment to become truncated. Thus, the original text will need to be restored.
