time on Capitol 45 2635 is listed as "3:10", and my 45 has so many skips and scratches, i couldn't get a legitimate time, although i suspect it is close to the 3:30 listed in the db... just FYI, the 45 is stereo and it's on the Capitol "bullseye" label (on a sort of related topic: does anybody know the last 45 on the great Capitol "orange and yellow swirl" label of the sixties???)

It's 3:32, John, and stereo just like you said.

Nice pickup, jrjr! I only own promo 45s for this, and mine has a listed time of (3:10), but an actual time of (3:31). Also, I quickly went through a couple of my 1969 stock 45 boxes for you. This is only meant to give you a ROUGH idea of when the "swirl" ended, and the "bullseye" began, jrjr. Glen Campbell's "Galveston", Capitol 2428, debuted in Billboard on 3/1/69, and is the latest # Capitol "swirl" label found in my two sample boxes. My earliest Capitol "bullseye" label # found in those same two 1969 boxes was Capitol 2482, "Hurt So Bad" by the Lettermen, which debuted Billboard on 5/31/69. So I've been able to narrow down the label change date down to between 3/1 and 5/31, 1969 for you, jrjr.

"Where's The Playground Suzie" by Glen Campbell is on the "target" label & debuted on 5/3/69 (though it has a higher catalog # than HSB). I have a promo single of "Games People Play" by Joe South (Capitol 2248) on the target label, but I've seen stock copies on the swirl label so mine may have been a "reservice" copy toward the end of the song's chart run.

Interesting to note that early singles on the target label had the old-style oval Capitol logo (like what's on the swirl labels), but by the late summer/early autumn of '69 there was a new target logo as well.

Maybe so - my promo is on the solid green label.

thanks everybody for the info, esp. about the capitol 45 labels (you know record labels are just one part of collecting 45's that makes it so gosh darn fun!)... for those of you curious about the differences between "creek" 45 vs. LP: the 45 version trims the verse which starts, "now me and my mate were back at the shack..." and cuts right to "there's a flood out in california..." otherwise they sound the same...
