Here are instructions for recreating the 45 edit from the LP version on the Control CD:
Remove the spoken intro from 0:00.0-0:17.1.
Keep 0:17.1-3:32.0 of the LP version.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove the 136 beats from 3:32.0-4:43.2.
Keep 4:43.2-4:59.2 (end) of the LP version.
Your mixdown will have an edit at 3:14.3 and will run 3:30.3.
The Control has a little tape drift so the BPM varies a bit from beginning to end, so they won't stay synched up after the edit; the true 45 doesn't have this drift.

This is another one that cannot be exactly re-created from the LP version. The echo at the end is different on the 45 than it is on the LP version. On the LP, you'll hear the keyboard echo with the vocal, but on the 45 only the vocal echoes.

I noticed that the song is in one of the TM Century Discs. Does anyone own it?
Does it contain the true 45 version?

If it's the disc in the 100s, it's not the proper version.

Well, it may turn out to be another disappointment, but on
Sept. 2nd "Janet Jackson - The Japanese Singles Collection"
is coming out. We'll have to watch out for run times and
sound samples between now and then to know if it's worth
getting.
But so far, the only one of these Japanese Singles
Collections that got (almost) everything right is the Wham!
one.

I thought The Final did a fantastic job of covering it on a greatest hits comp even if it did not have all the singles versions.
I'm pretty sure every wham edit has made CD already.

The only Wham! edit that hasn't made it to CD is the
second remixed version of "Wham Rap." And the US 12''
extended version, which was the only version that was
released in the U.S. And the original UK single mix of
"Last Christmas."

I have high hopes for the Janet "Japanese Singles Collection." Tower Japan is listing run times, and for the "Control" album singles, they match the single lengths. Unfortunately, for her second (pre-"Control") album, different
singles were issued in Japan than in the US, so none of the single edits from her second album are included. Any versions listed here are what is listed on the Tower.jp website.
Disc 1
1. Young Love (Edited Version) 00:03:42
2. Don't Stand Another Chance 00:04:19

12. Rhythm Nation (7" Edit) 00:04:30
13. Escapade 00:04:46

11. Every Time 00:04:19
12. Go Deep 00:04:45
13. You 00:04:45

Bad news. I just received the audio to this new Japanese Singles Collection, and aside from being brickwalled to death, it does not have the versions we seek.
"Young Love" appears to be the correct 7" version, which is an edit of the LP version. I did not carefully A/B with the 45 to be 100% sure.
"What Have You Done For Me Lately" is an edit of the LP version--not the correct US 7" mix.
"Nasty" is an edit of the LP version--not the correct US 7" mix.
"Let's Wait Awhile" is the LP version--not the remix.
I didn't check any tracks beyond those.

I wonder if they've used the edits created in 1995 for the international version of Design Of A Decade.
New edits similar in length to original single versions were made for several of the songs to accommodate two additional tracks on that edition of the album.

I was just about to cancel when I remembered that it has
"Start Anew" which was only available on first press
Japanese cds of "Control". Smart move.

"Start Anew" is a cleaned up vinyl transfer on the Janet set. It's really clean, but I can hear vinyl rumble on the fade out. It's also brickwalled.

Is it me, or is that keyboard echo on the LP very subtle? I really can't hear that much of a difference between
the two endings.
/So it's probably me. :)

Wow, that issue you noticed with "Start Anew" is bad indeed.
Even if it were sourced from the original masters, it sounds
like FM compressed radio, just like the rest of the CD. I
have watched the DVD counterpart of the compilation, video
quality is poor, they crammed 44 videos into a DVD9. Sigh :P

There are some questionable versions included on the new Japanese Singles Collection release.
As mentioned, "Start Anew" has been taken from vinyl and is really rough sounding!
The earlier Control era singles are indeed the edits created in 1995 for international editions of Design Of A Decade. However, the end of the 1995 "Nasty" edit on the new collection has been abruptly cut off early. No idea why.
Similarly, "Got 'Til It's Gone" is the Radio Edit but it once again begins late, missing Q-Tip's first "Now why you wanna go and do that?". This incomplete version first appeared on the 2009 Number Ones collection and has likely been sourced from there.
"Alright" is at least a real, complete version. Just not the one they should have used!
The correct Japanese single version of "Alright" is the 7" R&B Mix. This was released as a 3" CD single that matches the track listing of the US singles.
A version also called 7" R&B Mix appears on the 5" Alright Remixes EP in Japan, but it runs considerably longer on that release and features an additional rap by Heavy D.
Despite what the new collection states on the sleeve, "Alright" is not either of the versions labeled 7" R&B Mix on original releases - with or without rap.
The new collection actually uses the 7" Remix from the Japanese EP, with the Heavy D rap. (This isn't even the correct B-side, which was the 7" Remix WITHOUT Heavy D).
My guess is that producers of this new collection were working from what has been made available on the various Rhythm Nation 1814 era digital EPs, which failed to include the correct single version.
Due to the generic naming of the mixes and lack of clear labeling with regard to which ones did or did not feature Heavy D, they were confused and just pulled the edit from the Remixes EP that was closest in length to the 7" R&B Mix as listed on the 3" CD. Speculation, of course.

Outstanding! Thanks for pointing out CD sources for these single versions.
As for the links, this forum software is super old, so it doesn't do anything automatically. You can use the hyperlink box at the top of the text window to help turn things into links.

That particular one, the sound is not very good. The
single edit of this song was issued on several European
V/A comps and they all use the same muffled-sounding
tape. It's almost as if they have Dolby Noise Reduction
turned on where there was one. I don't know the reason
for this.
But Nasty and Pleasure Principal (7" Vocal) sound very
good on the comps you listed.
