Hi
RE: James Brown
Pat,
could i trouble you to double-check this song on the "Soul Train 25th Ann." box set? In the database, you list this as having the hit version of this song in stereo?
Can you confirm it is true stereo on there? The download version of the box set has it in mono.
This has actually come about because i was going thru my James Brown cd's and v/a comps trying to locate specific versions of his hits and it's quite a project trying to sort out all the mono vs. stereo...and on all his various best-of's it's anything goes.
I've located most tracks i knew to exist in stereo, but i've yet to hear "It's A Man's Man's world", the hit version in stereo.
Thanks
MM

MM: Glad to see your question and I'm interested in what Pat will say because I had the same issue before I plunked down the money to get the set.
You've probably got these already, but the full (Parts 1 and 2) versions of "Cold Sweat" and "Say It Loud - I'm Black And I'm Proud" from "CD of JB II" are the legit and wonderful stereo original versions of those songs and the version of "I Got The Feelin'" on the OST - "Dead Presidents" is also good, as well.

My apologies, yes it is mono on the Soul Train 25th Anniversary box set.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for confirming.
I had wondered if it was one of those deals where there were multiple issues of the set. Before that set even came out i read a rumor on the BSN site that it would be stereo on that set, but was never able to find anyone who got it that way.
Hi Dan; thanks for the heads up on those discs. And yes, i found when i was going thru the various sources i liked the original stereo mixes over remixes, like many on Star Time box. In fact on there, i was going to use the superior *sounding* version of "Sex Machine"..only to discover it isn't really stereo at all. It is essentially mono, with stereo reverb over it, making it "E". Trying to expand it in my wave editor revealed this.
Others like "Cold Sweat" are stereo, but as Pat indicated mixed very narrow..making the original mix preferred for me.
thanks again for the help!
