The sole CD appearance of this tune runs 2:48 while the Hot 100 Annual states the 45 runs 2:29. I have what I believe to be a 45 dub and it does fade at 2:29. Also, it is mixed quite different, with much more emphasis on the percussion. I believe it warrants a database update, Pat! Do you have the single to listen?

This is a good catch David. The LP version runs (2:47) and features different vocals than the 45 from 2:08 to the end of the song. You definitely cannot edit the LP version down to the 45 version.

also noticed in the intro, one of the sourest acoustic guitar notes ever released on 45: about 5 sec after guitar-bass-drums shuffle... ouch!

Pat, I'm not convinced it's a different vocal from 2:08, just a VERY different mix, the 45 bringing the background vocals further up front. Can anyone else comment on this one?

There is absolutely no difference in what take was used. I agree with David, the single was just mixed differently. Very differently, for the entire song! The vocals are very up front on the stereo mix, practically burying the rhythm track in a mono mixdown (at first it sounded like the drum was an overdub on the mono when a/b'ing them but i knew it was there in the stereo mix too, just not loud). Clearly the stereo mix was done as an afterthought, without having the mono mix handy....but it was definitely made using the same take and the vocals are definitely the same.

i will agree the mix sounds different, but my opinion is
that it's because we're comparing a mono version to a
stereo version....all the elements are present on both
versions....so i would NOT categorize this as a version
issue, but a delivery issue.....the takes are the same but
the mix sounds different because of the mono stereo
differences, it's just my thoughts on this...the song also
fades for 0:09 from 2:21-2:30
