Does anyone have a list of all the 45 versions there are out there by Pink Floyd. Then if you could let us know which ones were released on CD. Also, can anyone shed some light on the "tree full of secrets" bootleg. I picked up a mp3 copy on ebay for $20 a while back but the sound quality is horrible. One of the channels has this awful distortion throughout the entire set. I'm curious if the master of "TFOS" is like this or I just got a bad rip of the set.

I'll start with one of their non-charting 45s, which I special-ordered in August, 1972 after hearing it as one of the currents on the local oldies station.
"Free Four" is a bit of an odd duck. While its parent album Obscured By Clouds bore Capitol's Harvest imprint, the 45 was issued on the Capitol label, not Harvest.
Both the stock and promo 45s fade the song out beginning at 3:21, roughly 20 seconds earlier than on the LP. The 45 fades more quickly, out at 3:31.5 vs. 4:03 on the LP.
"Sway" is the B-side on both stock and promo copies, with the timing shown as 3:58.

Edtop40, it takes a lot of patience and sometimes many rescans to get the alignment just right. The HP scanner I use is not a great performer, and tends to leave bands, especially across black areas. But it's perfect for this task. The HP Scanjet 4670 was in production for only a short time.
This scanner does not lie flat. It sits at an angle in its stand and looks like a picture frame with a clear window, so you can position the record, then lay the see-through scanning window over it. This makes it much easier to assess the initial scan, then pull back the scanning window just enough to nudge the top of the 45 a hair left or right without going too far.
For label scans, I scan at 1200 dpi, then edit if necessary, saving the original in an uncompressed format. From there, I sharpen the image to the max, then reduce it to 125 dpi, then doing a medium sharpening. After saving the resized image, I'll use that to convert to jpg, varying the quality by the image colors (red and orange bleed more at lower quality settings.) Trial and error is the way to go here, so having the saved scans to go back to eliminates frustration.
I get the best results by starting with the maximum resolution, then working from there.

"Money," "Us And Them," "Time," "Have A Cigar," "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)" and "Run Like Hell" were all edited for single release (although "Wall" and "Time" aren't exactly straight edits of their LP versions). I do believe that of those only "Money", "Wall" and "Run Like Hell" actually charted. There are probably others as well.

I was in a "vinyl" record store that carries CDs a few weeks ago. They had a "best of" Pink Floyd CD and it was not "Echos." Does anyone know if any single versions appear? I know "Time" was on there and the run time was long so that was the LP version but what about "Run Like Hell." I don't remember the run time of that one and do not remember if the album version is the same length but I do remember that the end of the song on the 45 has sound effects edited out.

The length of the "Run Like Hell" single was shorter. I believe about 3:40. The opening guitar riff was shortened to one instance instead of two, and the exiting riff was actually extended from one to two (out of sequence I'm sure). I think the first edit runs from about :25 to :40.
Also the instrumental solo removes the 15-second section (where on the LP, the tires would be squealing in the underground parking lot), and it picks up on the scream going into the closing guitar.

Seems unusual to hear PF on ANY station pre-"Dark Side Of The Moon", let alone as a current on an oldies station! I could see a new release by a core artist, but PF was not well known in 1972.

Reading this entire thread over again I just realized that my initial question was never answered. The "Tree Full of Secrets" bootleg has very poor quality although it is nice to hear all of the versions. Does anyone know what single edits have been released on CD or should I begin looking for mint 45s?

True, that. KRSI wasn't afraid of taking a few chances. The PD had long looked to the UK charts for "secret weapons" as a top-40 programmer, and their MD knew where to find the goods from his days covering obscure Brit stuff in a local rock band. Surprisingly, "Free Four" wasn't dayparted exclusively to nights. Maybe it was because still summer.

As far as I know, only the single version of "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)" is commercially available (albeit 38 seconds longer). Everything else is only available in its LP version.

The DJ promo of "Money" has "do gooder, Bull S***" edited for AM airplay reasons. The commercial single has it uncensored.

"Learning To Fly" is on a CD called "Super Sessions Vol. 1" or "Gold & Platinum Vol. 5." These two CDs are identical, just with different disc titles. The 45 version cannot be edited from the LP.
"Money" can be edited from the LP version, and so can the censored promo version.
"Another Brick..." can be edited using the "Collection of Great Dance Songs" version.
"Run Like Hell" cannot be edited from the LP, because there is crowd noise on the intro of the LP version. There is no crowd noise on the intro of the 45.
"Comfortably Dumb" ;) can be edited from the LP version. If I recall correctly, there is just one edit that removes a large chunk from the middle.

Thanks Aaron. I have the promo CD for "Learning to Fly." I made my own 45 version of "Another Brick..." a while back. I'm looking for a clean sounding version of "Run Like Hell" but no luck.

I have 320 kbps versions of all the single versions of the charting singles, all from the Tree Full of Secrets bootleg. PM me if you want to hear any.
On a related but slightly random note, I love the disco versions of "Have A Cigar" and "Money" by Rosebud. I'm listening to them now. Anyone else remember these?
