just noticed on the Taragon CD , this song has a single-tracked vocal starting at 1:01 where on the other stereo versions I have (from Nippers and 30th Anniversary Collection) Paul harmonizes with himself. Anyone have the 45 to compare? What's up here?

Hi David, I just checked my 45 and the vocals are indeed single tracked. So the Taragon version is correct, and the others aren't. Nice catch!

You have an astute set of ears, David! I'm amazed at some of the fine details you pick up, particularly with '60s hits.

thank you, Todd! What I don't have are the original 45s nor the LPs to be able to determine what Robert unveiled. The gang on this board is truly amazing.

Does anyone have a mono or stereo LP to determine if this double-tracked version existed back then or if it is a new version (or as Pat would indicate "neither the 45 nor LP version")? I understood the Nipper's appearance was its first stereo mix (in 1988).

One more little thing; in comparing the 45 to the Taragon CD version, the fadeout is different. On the 45, the fade begins at about 2:01 and trails off quite dramatically. The CD stays full level and then fades off at the end. And if that ain't picky enough, the 45 runs a bit faster than the CD. So the correct 45 time is 2:14. Okay I'm done now.

I can add more detail here regarding the cd's listed in the database. The only two cd's that feature the single tracked vocal are the Taragon cd and the Special Music cd. Actually the fade on the Special Music cd fits the description of the fade described by Robert that you would find on the 45. So now comes the question of how did the vinyl LP handle the fade and single/double tracking?

Unlike David's copy, my copy of the Nipper's Greatest Hits Of The 60's Volume 1 CD has the single tracked vocal. My copy is the remastered version (for which Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang" was replaced with Ketty Lester's "Love Letters").
