My commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:59), but an actual time of (3:54).

I have this on a promo 45, both sides are labeled 3:53, but one side is a longer version that actually runs 6:24.
I'm bringing this thread back because I'm curious if there was a different edit of this issued in Canada. On a business trip to Montreal in the autumn of 1978 I recall hearing a version that had the slow first verse from the long version that's on my single, but didn't sound like it ran anywhere near 6 minutes...more like 4 +/-.

Not sure about that, but I do remember WLS in Chicago playing a version that had the (:20) opening piano from the long promo/LP version, but was otherwise the same as the 45 (for a total running time of about (4:14)).
Was a promo for that issued, or was that a custom job for the Big 89?

My dj copy of Mac Arthur Park states a running time of (3:53) on both the mono and stereo side but both sides run (3:54). Hykker, can you give some additional information about your timing such as mono running time vs stereo running time or were both sides stereo?

Both sides are stereo. The short version is as you described, the long version is listed 3:53, actual 6:24.
I'm guessing the pressing plant just put on the wrong label by mistake, I've seen other long/short promo copies that had a 6+ minute time listed on the side with the long version. I think I may even have had one when I did mobile dj work...I'll look & see if I still have it.

Pat, I own both vinyl and styrene promo 45s of this song. Both are unlike the
ones that both you and Steve currently own. Steve mentions seeing
long/short promos that had a listed (6:24) on the long version side, coupled
with the listed (3:53) short version. That is the configuration (both sides
stereo) for both of my promo 45 copies.
