(Song Title "Running Time/Listed time")
This Time 3:57/4:18
Ain't Even Done With The Night 3:18/3:20
Hurts So Good 3:37/3:35
Jack And Diane 4:16/4:16
Hand To Hold On To 3:23/3:24
Clumblin' Down 3:32/3:33
Pink Houses 4:43/4:43
Authority Song 3:48/3:49
Lonely Ol' Night 3:44/3:44
Small Town 3:39/3:42
R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. 2:48/2:49
Rain On The Scarecrow 3:44/3:46
Rumbleseat 2:56/2:57
Paper In Fire 3:48/3:53
Cherry Bomb 4:46/4:49
Check It Out 4:19/4:20
Pop Singer 2:46/2:45
"This Time" is indicated "commercial copies were all (4:18)" on the db. However my stock 45's actual running time is (3:57) as the listed time is "4:18"
"Jack And Diane" This actual 45 running time is surely "4:16". I am distinctly audible until 4:14, and I am hard to listen to the 4:15 mark. However I could clearly listen to "the clapping sound" at "4:16".
I provide the info of his 45s reached Top 40 on the 80's decade only. Please, Post the 70s & 90s info etc.too.

Thinking the time discrepency for "This Time" is too large, I timed my promo copy which states a running time of (4:18) and it actually runs (4:16). The flip side of my dj copy states (3:56) and runs (3:56). Anyone else have a commercial copy of this 45 that can confirm the running time?

Is the 3:56 version an edit, or early fade?

It's an edit.

Pat, like you, all I currently own for it is a promo 45, but I'm goin' "45 shopping" all this weekend; I'll keep an eye out for a stock copy, and report back if I'm successful in tracking one down.

Todd: Do-Mo Arigatou for your response! I'll continue this style. Coming up next...
Pat: Thanks for the reflecting my info. Excuse me, the running time of "Rain On The Scarecrow" is not indicated on your data base yet.

my notes show that my 45 issued as riva 205 lists a run time of 4:18 but actually is a fade and runs 3:58.....which would line up approximately with abagon's...aaron..i will send you an mp3 of the 45 to see who's right...is it and edit or fade.....

Ed, it is definitely an edit. I just went back and re-checked it. There is an edit on the intro, and also after the last chorus.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in another thread or not, but on the CD "Words And Music" there is what sounds like a tape slip/snag at 3:34. It noticeably slows down for a fraction of a second.

Pat,
"R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A." has the sub title of "(A Salute To 60's Rock)". therefore, the correct title is "R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. (A Salute To 60's Rock)". This is described on the LP record label, on the LP cover and the 45's record label, but the 45 picture sleeve doesn't have.

Can the 45 version of "R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A." be created from the LP version?

Yes, simply cut off the false start at the beginning.

There is a shorter edit of "Jack & Diane" on "Side 2" of the U.S. Promo 12" and on one side of the U.S. Promo 7" (there is no designation of Side 1/2 or A/B on the Promo 7"). The labels state a runtime of 3:45, but it times out to about 3:52. This version may have also been the commercial 45 version in Canada, as that label also states 3:45.
To recreate the "Short" version, it's three quick edits and a fade. I used the remastered version from 'Words and Music' (2004), but any of the CD appearances of the LP/U.S. commercial 45 version should work the same way:
1. Delete from 0.00 to 9.394: This should effectively remove 1/3 of the intro of the LP version/U.S. commercial 45 so that the song starts on the downbeat concurrent with (what was) the second run-through of the guitar riff.
2. FROM THE RESULTANT FILE: Delete from 2:44.017 to 2:48.663. Your cut should start on the downbeat after the three drum hits following the vocal bridge ("...changes come around real soon, make us women and men", ba-dum-dum *CUT*). This should edit out the first half of the drum solo.
3. FROM THE RESULTANT FILE: Delete from 3:52.610 to end. Your cut should begin on the handclap before the final guitar riff that starts at about 3:53.
4. Apply a fade starting at about 3:42.986 to end of file.

Eric, The label on the promo at 45cat says 3:45. The late
Jim Abbott timed his short version out to 3:48.

Thanks, John! I studied a rip of the promo 12” to make my edit. Maybe they faded the promo 45 a few seconds earlier?
