Edwin Starr's "Stop the War Now" currently appears on two CDs... One has the song in mono with a run time of 3:40, while the other is in stereo with a 3:34 length. I have a sneaking suspicion these run times are reflective of a difference in length between the vinyl 45 and LP. I believe the song originally appeared on the 1971 Motown LP Involved. Could someone who has "Stop the War Now" on 45 and/or LP be so kind to impart the run time info to the rest of us?

Just thought I'd bring this up again to see if anyone might have an answer to my question above.

Todd, I somehow got sidetracked in my quest to obtain this stock 45 (one of only a handful of 1971 Top 40 hits that I don't already own), but I've just snagged it on eBay, and will supply your requested details as soon as it arrives.

Todd, my commercial 45 for this song has just arrived. It is mono, and confirmed as Gordy 7104. Taking in to account that the song both begins with a barely audible, slowly-building explosion, and ends with a rather longish, very-low-volume fade (and on iffy-quality Motown vinyl, to boot), my very best effort to determine an accurate actual time resulted in a listed time of (3:35), but an actual time of (3:44). I then checked the song in Pat's db, and, fortunately, the version of this song on the Motown Singles Box Set, Vol. 10 is also mono, and also runs exactly (3:44).

You're the man, Jim! Thanks for solving the run time mystery on the 45 side. Now all we need is to find out the stereo LP run time for "Stop the War" (which I suspect is shorter than the 45 length) and then we can put this entry to rest!

my commercial 45 issued as gordy 7104 is in mono and lists
a run time of 3:35 on the label but actually runs 3:40 and
is identical to the version from the below cd....
(M) (3:40) &nb sp; Motown 314530940 Very Best Of

Well, how about that... The two domestic mono CD entries of "Stop the War Now" have run times of 3:40 and 3:44, which are identical to the two different commercial 45 lengths! Since when do things ever work out this neatly for us collectors? ;-)
