A beloved and hard-to-find track, to be sure.
The LP version on the Some Tough City LP (also denoted as "Long Version" on Side 1 of the promo 12" single) has a printed and an actual run time of 3:45. It's played by a live drummer to a click track, and both the LP and promo 12" have a tempo of 116.4 BPM.
The 45 version (also denoted as "Short Version" on Side 2 of the promo 12" single) has a printed and an actual run time of 3:28. The 12" single runs 116.4 BPM, and the 45 is imperceptibly slower at 116.2 BPM, meaning that it probably runs a fraction of a second longer.
The 45 version has one simple edit in it, and can easily be created from the LP version:
Keep the first 17 beats from 0:00.0-0:09.0.
Edit on the snare after the piano roll.
Remove the 32 beats from 0:09.0-0:25.5.
Keep 0:25.5-3:45 (end). The 45 and LP have the same fade.
You mixdown should run 3:28, with an edit at the 9 second mark.
I have to switch computers now, and I'm going to try and scan in a whole bunch of labels. If not tonight, then tomorrow...

As promised, many Tony Carey scans...
I have no idea where this next single came from, or if it's from an album at all...
I found the CD packaging for this, but no disc. Rats! So here's proof that it exists...

Both Tony Carey tracks are terrific!
Thanks for the scan of the 12 inch "First Day of Summer". I forgot I had that one.
I also have a double album from Planet P that was pressed on pink vinyl. That was a Tony Carey project too. I have never listened to it.

Pat:
The lone CD appearance in the database of Tony Carey's "The First Day of Summer" should contain the comment: (LP version).
