The actual commercial 45 run time of Irene Cara's "Flashdance... What a Feeling" is 3:56. (Run time information courtesy of abagon. The stated time on the record label is 3:55.) The only reason I post this info is because the song's CD times in the database range from 3:49-3:57.

The 12" version of this contains an extra verse that's not on any other source (as far as I know).

i've been reviewing the year 1983 over the last few months and the song "flashdance....what a feeling" by irene cara runs 3:56 while all the db entries run between 3:49 and 3:54, a good 0:07 to 0:02 SHORTER than the actual 45's run time......there was one cd listed below

(S) (3:57) Columbia/Legacy 86827 Paramount Pictures'90th Anniversary Memorable Songs

that seems to have the proper, longer run time, with no notes in the db, so i bought it...it turns out the version on this cd is a re-recording and NOT the original version.....this should be noted in the db....

Some useless trivia... as often happens, the variety of lengths is partly due to speed variations, and partly due to differences in when the fadeout ends.

Examples:
• Irene Cara What a Feelin' CD = correct speed (assuming synth A4=440 Hz)
Flashdance soundtrack CD = 0.38% fast
• US 45 = 0.63% fast

The last lyrics heard in the song are:

* (Call, call, call, call)
(What a feelin') I can have it all
(Bein's believin') Bein's believiiiiin'-oh!
(Take your passion)
(Make it happen) ** Make it happen
(What a feelin') What a feeeeelin' ***
(Bein's believin') ****
Happen! *****

* = soundtrack CD version begins fade here
** = 45 and Irene Cara LP/CD version begins fade here
*** = soundtrack CD version ends fade here
**** = Irene Cara LP/CD version ends fade here
***** = 45 ends fade here

The "Happen!" which only is at the very end of the 45 appears to be a non sequitur, as if Cara were responding to the chorus singing "Make it happen" instead of "Bein's believin'". I wouldn't be surprised if the reason it doesn't appear anywhere else is because it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.

For no apparent reason, the song's appearance on the 1997 Irene Cara CD reissue used the version title "Radio Edit" even though it's not unique in any way.
