According to abagon, the actual commercial 45 run time of Madonna's "Material Girl" is 3:59, not 3:56 as stated on the record label. I notice the song only runs 3:50 on the two CDs remixed in "Q sound". Is this shorter length the result of an early fade of the 45 and LP?

No, the Q-Sound version from The Immaculate Collection has a cold ending.

The Immaculate Collection seems to confuse a lot of people. I read reviews/comments (not here specifically) from people who are aware that the songs are Q Sound mixes, understand that they sound different, but think of it as an EQ setting or a filter applied to the original recordings when in fact they were completely remixed. Every single track from "Holiday" to "Vogue" was rebuilt from the ground up by Shep Pettibone and Goh Hotoda.
Not only are all songs mixed and structured differently --many having been based on elements that originated in each songs respective 12" remix-- but new instruments and sounds were added too, making these true 1990 mixes. One of the most dramatic differences is the decision to strip Madonna's double tracked vocals back to a single track on many of the songs. In the case of "Holiday," its pitch was sped up considerably from that of the original LP, single and remix releases.
Anyway, The Immaculate Collection versions are used so often that to avoid confusion, maybe we should always refer to them as "Material Girl 1990," etc.

Just thought I'd bump this thread back up to the front page because the run time info hasn't yet been incorporated into the database.
Also, thanks to Underground Dub for clearing up the "Q Sound" situation.

I've noticed that my local radio station has started playing this version instead
of the 45.

I have travelled extensively and notice that multiple radio stations (and
streaming services) play the Q-Sound version of all Madonna's hits. I guess it
was cheaper just to get a copy of the "Immaculate Collection" than hunt down
proper versions. It stinks, as newer generations are mostly exposed to
inaccurate remixed variations of the classic hit versions (house-piano in "Into
the Groove", 12" edits on many hits) but it is what it is.

Not just Madonna, the Greatest Hits remix of Blondie's
"Heart Of Glass" is pretty much all you hear anymore as
well.

And, people online go into denial when I mention that
remixes really do wind up replacing the original hit
mixes.
