The cassette single for this tune (Sony 550/Epic Soundtrax 36T77862-4) has
the "edit" version (no time listed, actual time 4:19, assuming the cassette and
CD speeds are the same). The LP version can be edited down to match (I used
the soundtrack CD). Just keep 0:00 up to approximately 3:01, then edit most
of the solo until approximately 3:23.5. The edit should be done between the
beats, as Mr. Saadiq finishes a note over the beat at 3:01. After that, edit the
song from 4:19 to the end. The fade begins at 4:02.

Paul, I thought you might be interested in my promo CD single information for this song. This part of my collection is not always easy for me to get to, so when I'm here, I try to catch up on any details I might have to add. We got two different promo CD singles in for this song to the station back in 1995, and I will list them here in the order that we received them:

-Raphael Saadiq-"Ask Of You" (ABK 6975)
1-Edit (listed time 4:22; actual 4:21)
2-Album Version (listed 6:01; actual 6:00)
3-Instrumental (listed 6:01; actual 6:22)

-Raphael Saadiq-"Ask Of You" (BSK 7082)
1-Remix (listed & actual time 3:20)
2-Edit (listed 4:22; actual 4:21)
3-Instrumental (listed & actual 5:06)

I truthfully do not remember for sure if we switched over to play the shorter, "Remix" version on the second CD when it came in, or if we just stayed with the original, (4:21) Edit. My best guess, however, is that we stayed with the longer, "edit" version to play on-air, because I would normally have placed a sticker on the promo if we didn't play Cut 1 from the first promo CD single received, and I have no note on either disc.

Thanks for the info, Jim. I'm going to assume that the Edit on the first
promo is the proper single version.
