Although not in the database, Cozy Cole's "Topsy I" managed a #27 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1958. Does anyone know if this song exists on CD? "Topsy II", which was a much bigger hit for Cole, has appeared on a number of CDs unlike its predecessor.

I know it's on CD, Todd, but off the top of my head, I don't know which ones. I have it on a promo, but I know it's available on commercial CDs as well.

Found a copy on Napster, Todd.

Appears to be from this 2000 release:

I'm pretty sure all of those are the original recording, although I don't have access to a copy right now (was property of a station I worked for in the past).

my commercial 45 for the song "topsy I" issued as the B-
side of love 5004 lists the run time on the label as 3:30
but actually only runs 3:22 and thanks to john i can
confirm it's the same mono version as on the cd
above...."cozy cole and all that big band jazz"......thx
john

I recently ordered the Cozy Cole/Savina CD listed above and it arrived in factory sealed condition, but much to my chagrin appears to be a CD-R. I haven't opened it yet, but the artwork on the paper inserts clearly appear to have been produced by an ink-jet or laser printer.

Does anyone know if this title was ever made available as a conventional factory-pressed silver compact disc?

I thought ours was, Todd... but seems like I remember it looking like an "off" brand, black and white one-sided sheet for the front cover.

I'm sure you don't want to open it so you can return it. I suspect there is a factory-pressed CD inside, but can you describe what makes you think it was printed on a laser or ink jet printer?

I ask because if it is the simplicity of the layout, it may be legit. If it is blurred printing... that sounds like a bootleg or something. Our print was razor-sharp, just pretty basic.

Does it look like this?

I don't remember the bit of "page" visible at the bottom right of this image, and the pics on the cover were sharper than this... but this is identical otherwise to the cover we had.

Can you tell us more about your printer suspicions?

Gene:

I can detect a jagged "pixel" pattern along the rounded edges of the black and white print on the paper inserts, which suggests a low resolution consumer printer was likely used. Some of the smaller white font print on the back is blurry and fuzzy in contrast to the black background and even some of the black font print against the white background is illegible. In other words, the print is not razor-sharp like one would expect on an industrial quality commercial product and I'd be willing to bet that if I were to tear off the shrink wrap I'd discover a CD-R inside.

I'm probably going to return my copy because if I wanted my music on a CD-R bootleg, I could have someone rip digital copies of the tracks for me and I'd just as easily make one myself. I'd say my best bet is to contact vendors who are selling a opened/used copy of this CD and inquire as to whether it appears to be a legitimate silver factory pressing. I'm much more willing to pay for authentic factory pressings that will last closer to a lifetime, as opposed to cheap CD-R copies which commonly have a life span of only a few years.

I don't remember jagged edges... sadly, I suspect you're right.

For anyone looking for Cozy Cole's Top 40 hits in true stereo, they are on the Italian CD, Cozy Cole Hits! / It's A Cozy World.

Paul C---Wasn't also issued on a stereo 45, I have never seen one, but according to an article written by Mike Callahan in Goldmine Magazine back in 1979 it listed it as a stereo 45 on Love. Has anybody ever seen one.
