A while ago, my friend Todd Ireland asked me to provide listed/actual 45 timing info for this 1971 hit, but trying to track down a stock 45 for the song had long been problematic. Well, I finally won an eBay auction for it, and received my copy today. It is mono, confirmed as Stax 0098, has a listed time of (3:17) and an actual time of (3:15). FYI, the nine current database CDs that feature the original recording of this song range, time-wise, from (3:12) to (3:18).

my vinyl 45 issued as stax 0098 edits off the front
0:01.26 of the drum intro and starts the song with the
guitar riff 'do, doot, do dooooo'...question is....do any
of the db entries start the song with the guitar riff or
do they all start with the drum beat intro?.....i only
have a cdr copy, which i believe is from the cd rhino
72410 (best of), but i didn't note which cd it was
from....

Ed, I've just pulled and listened to three of the 9 db entries for you, with
various lengths, for this song:
Rhino 72410 - (3:18) (S) Best Of
Stax 30307 - (3:16) (S) Very Best Of
Stax 4411 - (3:12) (S) Complete Stax/Volt Singles 1968-1971
All three of these CDs contain the same, drum intro that you are not looking
for. All of the db CDs feature the song in stereo, while the 45 is in mono.
Based on my findings here, if I were you, I wouldn't be holding out much
hope that you'll be finding what you're looking for on CD, without
intervention from one of our "resident 45 editors".....
