Is there a difference between what's out there on CD and what's on the vinyl 45?
Has the 45 version ever appeared on CD?

John, I can answer your first question. The vinyl 45 is a dedicated mono mix, with the guitars mixed more upfront (compared with what you'd hear from a fold-down of the LP version.) The 45 fades out just before the coda on the end of the LP version kicks in.
BTW, the later Reprise Back-To-Back Hits reissue 45 (GRE 0746) runs a bit faster, and has a commensurately longer fade than the original 1970 Reprise 0911 single. Both 45s state a time of 2:45 and run an actual 2:43.

... different vocal mix, too... apparently neil hated the 45 mix, which is why it probably won't see the light of day on cd...

Neil Young Revisits "Early Daze" on New Compilation due
June 28
A couple of that LP's songs appear on Early Daze in
alternate versions: "Cinnamon Girl" in its long-
unavailable mono single mix with a unique guitar outro,
and "Down by the River" in a previously unreleased take
with different vocals.
