While on the subject of Bonnie Pointer, I noticed there is no listing for her Top 40 song "I Can't Help Myself". I recently edited the LP version to the 45 version when performing an audio overdub for the Don Kirshner Rock Concert performance I have on video. The LP version is on Disco Nights, Vol. 7 if we want to get a listing started.

I Can't Help Myself reached #40 on the Billboard charts and did not chart top 40 on other trade publications of the day. As I have stated so many times, this book (now database)is NOT A BILLBOARD based top 40 but a concnsus top 40 based on several trade publications.

Does anyone have timing info for the commercial vinyl 45 of this early 1980 remake?

The actual commercial 45's running time is (5:22) while the printed time is "3:49" on the record label. (Motown M 1478F)

Thank you abagon. Another good example of the actual track length being nowhere near the printed time (in this case a good minute and a half longer).

This must be a case of two 45 versions. I have this song dubbed directly from a 45, and the time is right around 3:49. I know for certain it doesn't run over 5 minutes on the copy I dubbed it from. I'll double check the time and report back.

Just checked my 45 dub, and it runs 3:50 exactly. There are definitely two pressings.

So now of course comes the question "where can we find the shorter commercial vinyl 45 version of this song on cd?"

I'm pretty sure the shorter 45 version has never been on CD. But I just bought and received the "Disco Nights 7" CD which has the long version of Bonnie's "I Can't Help Myself". Does anyone know what the edit points are on the short 45 version (3:50), as I'd like to edit it from the long version?

Oh that's a relief, i thought i was the only one who had a
45 that ran the 5:22 length. I remember playing it first
time at home and being surprised how long it was.
Anyway, Edison, i have a dub of the short 45 version, i'll
send it over to you for reference.
