Promo Only included this song on its Mainstream and Modern Rock series (among others), and the two cuts have an audible mix difference. The Modern Rock series mix brings the guitars and some drums (toms?) up in the mix, but otherwise the song's structure is the same.
Does anyone have the promo single on this or more info on these mixes?

I don't have the single, but I'm pretty sure the promo had a "Rock Mix" on it.

Is there even such a thing as a promo single anymore or is it all downloads now?
That having been said, there are (at least) 2 mixes of this song. Most stations played a version with a slightly shorter intro, a cold ending and was very compressed/hard-limited, almost to the point of distortion. I'm guessing this is the mix on the Promo Only sampler you referenced.
Newmusicserver.com has one called the Mattches remix which has a longer intro, a fade ending and the sampling from "Rock & Roll Pt II" is much more prominent. I don't think I've ever heard this version on the radio.

Some labels - and I would guess all - are still shipping CD promos today, although I imagine their day is limited.
BTW, the two versions of "I Kissed A Girl" I referenced are the same length, with the same :03 intro and cold ending.
