LP version runs 4:04, 45 version is listed as 2:57. Anyone know how to recreate the 45 version?

John, while it is possible to re-create the edit, the 45 is mixed differently than the LP version. The giveaway is in the saxophone which follows the first verse. The sax is centered on the stereo side of the DJ 45, while it's panned over to the right channel on the MCA Born To Be Wild/A Retrospective CD. The CD track sounds a lot harsher, too, with a far more accentuated midrange and less bass than on the 45.
Speed-wise, the 45 runs a bit slower than the CD track.

I've also just heard the mix differences that John pointed out, and in addition, there is a piano starting at 0:13 of the LP version that is not present on the 45 version. So, yah, it can't be edited from the LP version.

Does anyone have the actual vinyl LP 'Slow Flux'?
I'm not 100% sure the mix on the MCA CD 'Retrospective' is the original vinyl LP mix.

Aha! There you have it. John was kind enough to send me a dub of his vinyl LP, and it does NOT match the Retrospective CD. The vinyl LP version does contain the same mix as the 45, so the 45 version can be edited from true LP version.
The Time-Life Guitar Rock CD has the same remix as the Retrospective CD.
