My commercial 45 (confirmed as Bang 536, is vinyl, with deadwax info of "W10109") has a listed time of (2:15), but an actual time of (2:12).

my commercial 45 is just like jim's....if you fade the 2:18
version from the 1966-1992 greatest hits cd for 0:10 from
2:02 to 2:12 you can effectively re-create the vinyl 45
version......i always get confused on this topic....so
shouldn't the qualifier on the 1966-1992 cd be 'lp length'
and NOT version?....

really??...the vinyl 45 and the greatest hits 66-92 cd sound the same to me......what are the differences you hear?

i just checked that website and it says the mono 45
version
was the same as what was issued on the greatest hits 66-
92
cd....
GH66-92 - mono, reverts to the FON (mono) version for the
first time in 25 years!
unless i'm missing something, which i probably am...
anyone?
i just gave it another A/B comparison.....they sound the
same to me...

You misread that, Ed. The mono 45 version is not the same as the track on the GH 1966-92 CD. Here's what the site said about the 45:
"BANG 536 - (mono) This is not the true FON (The Feel Of Neil Diamond LP) mono mix. Instead, it's a mono'ed version of the FON stereo mix."
Here's what it says the differences are between the FON mono LP mix and the FON stereo LP mix:
"FON (mono LP) - Is very subtly different from the stereo mix. The acoustic guitar is louder and has a richer sound, esp. on the 2nd verse, and the backing vocalists are missing right after "Your eyes tell me it's wasted", which gives the horns an unexpected emphasis. Song runs a few seconds longer than the FON (st) one.
FON (stereo LP) - All stereo versions are identical until the very end, right after the phrase "I'm gonna die". On the Bang versions (incl. mono ones), there's a mysterious hole on the lead vocal track in 2 places while the girls sing "ohhh, ohhh". Fades at "...lay down and die/I got the feeling". Horns and backing vocals on left, acoustic guitar on right."
To summarize: The GH 66-92 track features the FON mono version. However, the Bang 536 45 is a fold of the FON stereo version, which does include the backing vocalists right after "your eyes tell me it's wasted." Those same backing vocalists are missing from the same spot on the GH '66-'92 CD track.
They weren't kidding when they said "subtle."

I need to revive this old topic. If I read correctly what I see above,
the 45 version is a fold-down of the FON stereo mix. If that's really
the case, wouldn't the entries in the database that read "(fold down of
the stereo "The Feel Of Neil Diamond" vinyl LP)" say instead "45
Version"?
