There were promo versions that received a significant amount of airplay back in the day for 'N Sync's first two hits. While I don't own the promo singles, these are the versions:

"I Want You Back" (Back Beat Radio Edit) (this version starts off with just beats instead of with a cold vocal)

"Tearin' Up My Heart" (Back Beat Radio Edit) (similar situation as "I Want You Back" and I believe it was also on a US CD single)

Can anyone post the details on these for inclusion in the database?

"Tearin' Up My Heart" is one of my favorite songs of the '90s, and "I Want You Back" is great, too. I've never heard these Back Beat Radio mixes, or even know about them until now. This sounds very interesting. Does anyone have these mixes? I'd be very curious to hear them.

Aaron, as far as you recall, after the vocal-heavy intros of the originals, do these edits go into the "album mix" of the song, or are the entire songs remixed?

I have both of them, EdisonLite. Yes, once the first verses begin, they are the same as the album versions. I think they were designed for talking over and/or providing a more uptempo intro.

In my neck of the woods, the Providence/New Bedford area, the back beat
versions got the most airplay.

I remember driving north of Boston to a Towers Records store to pick up the
import single of "Tearin' Up My Heart" just to have the back beat version.

For kicks and giggles, I'll throw in that American Top 40 played the original
version of "Tearin' Up My Heart" for the first few weeks the song charted,
and eventually switched to the Back Beat version once it was approaching
the Top Ten. "I Want You Back" was always the original version.

The back beat versions Ed were played a lot. I remember hearing that beat in the beginning and had to go pick up the single back then for it. They are my go to versions in my top 40.

As people said above, two of the best songs of the 90's. The intro beat into the normal song and the outro IMHO are why this got played so much.
