My former top 40 station used to play the Pop Single Edit of "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz. If anyone has details on the promo CD, please feel free to post them. The run time was right around 3:05, and it replaced the guitar intro with a section from the instrumental music in the middle.

Aaron, we got in two different promo CD singles for this song back in 1999, the second of which is on an officially-issued-by-Virgin, non-numbered CD-R. Here are the details:
-Lenny Kravitz-"Fly Away" (DPRO-13657)
1-Single Edit (listed 3:06; actual 3:05)
2-LP Version (listed 3:41; actual 3:40)
3-(callout hook)
-Lenny Kravitz-"Fly Away"
1-Pop Single Edit (listed 3:06; actual 3:05)
Aaron, after a quick listening sample, I really couldn't hear any difference between the "Single Edit" on the first disc and the "Pop Single Edit" on the second disc, but I miss things all the time. Let me know if you need me to shoot out any of the above tracks to assist you with your version analysis. FYI, our station exclusively played the "LP Version" as a current.

Jim, if you wouldn't mind passing along the "Single Edit," that would be great. I'm 99.9% sure it's exactly the same as the Pop Single Edit. Thanks!

Jim, your ears do not deceive you. There is absolutely NO difference between the "Pop Single Edit" and the "Single Edit." That means another version is still floating around out there. It's highly possible that the version I remember was a custom job. It's like the single edits you sent to me, with the exception of the intro. It doesn't start off with the electric guitar. It plucks a section from the middle and pastes it before the first verse.

Aaron, I believe the mix you're thinking of is this one. It's from a CD-R, with the following info printed on it:
The KKRZ / Portland Pop Edit (edited by Matt Jones)
It runs 3:28 and starts just like you described.
