My 1963 commercial 45, confirmed as Swan 4125 with deadwax info of "S-4125-W", has a listed time of (2:15), but an actual time of (2:18). FYI, the 12 current database CDs that feature this song have run times ranging from (2:12) to (2:16).

Does your copy show the artist as the Rebels? I have a Swan original and an Eric reissue and both have the artist as the Rockin' Rebels. Even though I was only 12 when the song was a hit, I only recall it being announced as being the "Rockin' Rebels" on the radio.

Steve, I have 2 Swan commercial 45s, and they both show the group name simply as "The Rebels". I believe Duane Eddy's long-time backing group had also been known as "The Rebels" for at least the 5 years before '63, and pointed that fact out to Swan. The label then responded by pressing up late-in-its-current-chart-run 45s as by "The Rockin' Rebels". Swan also used this RR name for the group's "Rockin' Crickets" follow-up (even though this song had actually been recorded by the Hot-Toddys 4 years earlier.) Seemingly, all "Wild Weekend" oldies re-pressings, as well as references to the group since '63, always seem to refer to the group as the "Rockin' Rebels". But, in Jan/Feb. 1963, it was all "Rebels" on the few airchecks I've heard. Of course, it is always possible that a lawsuit was being threatened by Eddy's group, which may have resulted in Swan asking radio stations to modify how the DJ's referred to the group on-air. Anyone with additional info here? - please chime in.

I have both variations. The "Rebels" billing appears on the more-typical Swan pressing of that period, and the "Rockin' Rebels" copy is from American Record Pressing Co. (ARP). Deadwax on the latter is the "Mastering Reco-Art Phila." logo, machine-stamped "S - 4 1 2 5 - W", "ARP" script letters logo and the "Audio Matrix" logo.

Vinyl quality on the latter is the usual grade of ARP recycled asphalt.

there is a very slight pitch issue which could account for
the timing differences.....my commercial 45 issued as swan
4125 and lists' the artist as "the rebels" and states a run
time as 2:15, but actually runs 2:18
