Hi Folks:
Was there ever a record of this song without the siren from 1:59 - 2:04? I had heard what I believed was a custom edit in 1981, though it would seem to be a complex signal removal for 1981, being analog tape and all.
Just wonder if such a promo ever existed. This version sounded a bit reverberated and had a much longer fade like the LP vesrion.

Jody, at least the initial copies of the U.S. DJ 45 on Cleveland International/Epic included the siren on both sides. (Deadwax on my stereo/stereo Terre Haute styrene promo copy are ZSS-167893-1A and ZSS-167893-1B.)
I moved to Oklahoma while this record was on the charts, and the station I went to work for had originally been serviced with the Canadian Attic stock copy and stuck with it. Sonically, the Attic 45 blows the U.S. issue out of the water. It has a really nice low-end percussive punch that was rolled off of the flatter-sounding Cleveland International/Epic single.
I'd guess it was a custom version that you'd heard.

Yes I have the Attic stock 45 from when I was a young boy. It does have a very punchy sound. I never knew that "...Party" was even a single state-side. I just thought the nearby Buffalo, NY station played it as a courtesy to cross-border listeners.
By the way, as a quick aside while speaking of Attic pressings - if you're a hi-fi nut at all, I find Hagood Hardy's "Homecoming" LP to be an excellent pressing. Track down a good copy and listen to "Quorum" on a good table.
