Something I just noticed with "Downtown" by Petula Clark.......

at the 2:03 mark in the song during the instrumental break when she sings "Downtown", she goes up an octave on all the appearances that I have on CD.   This did not occur on the original 45 version.

So is this a stereo vs. mono issue since all but one (which I don't have) of the songs CD appearance are in Stereo? If so, would all of these versions be categorized as "Stereo LP version"...

Thoughts?

great observation, Fetta. I too didn't notice that before, however in just
comparing the two, in the mono mix i have, I can not hear her sing
"Downtown" as she does in the stereo mix (as you state, going "up" in her
tone).

what a subtle difference, but i agree, a distinction is deserved here.

Nice observation, Fetta!

Just a suggestion...in the future you may want to do a search and put these in the already existing topic threads.

Does anyone have a copy of the mono "Downtown" vinyl LP as we need to see if this is strictly a stereo LP version or an LP version?

US Stereo LP version, the UK Pye LP sounds like the 45 single. At least the Mono LP is.

Kent, the stereo vinyl LP is definitely not the 45 version as I have a copy of the stereo LP. You make a comment regarding the mono LP being the 45 version but is it the US mono LP?

No, UK Pye original Mono LP. Also, Swedish Pye Mono LP also is the same. Who originated her English language recordings.

I finally found a copy of the U.S. mono LP of "Downtown" and the mono copy includes the 45 version of Downtown.

I'm listening to my mono stock 45 of Downtown (WB 5494, styrene, stamped matrix numbers of GA -14252-1G) and i'm hearing the upswing in the vocal for the one word at the same point that it occurs in the stereo mix, although it is pretty well buried behind the music bed and the backing vocalists. I only have the stereo pressing of the Downtown LP so if someone could shoot me a dub off of the mono lp I would appreciate it. Years ago I had a vinyl promo for Downtown and I ended up selling it on ebay (and this was before I got into collecting promo 45s... if only I knew then what I know now....)
