my commercial cd single for the whitney houston song "my love is your love" issued as arista 13730 states the version as "album version" with a listed run time of 4:24 but actually runs 4:20 like all the db entries.....

On the greatest hits CD, "I Will Always Love You: the Best of Whitney
Houston," there is a version of this song, referenced by various sources as
the "radio edit," that runs 4:04.

According to the db, dj copies of this 45 were mislabeled 4:04, and
actually ran 4:20. Was there a second promo that actually did run 4:04? If
not, does anyone know the story with the 4:04 version on "I Will Always Love
You: the Best of Whitney Houston"?

I bought this album back at Xmas time for the cleaned up Didn't We Almost have It All and if I recall correctly the 4:03 version is an early fade of the album version omitting the extended Bobbi Christina adlibs on the fade.

I will check it tonight when I get home...

Double checked it and its just an early fade of the LP mix. The fade is
longer on the original so you lose the second clap your hands from
Bobbi Christina and her Ad lib about the record is not over.

The cleanup of "Didn't we Almost..." is to be on the upcoming reissue of the 1987 "Whitney" album. I don't know if it was also used for this "I Will Always Love You: Best Of" CD, but I suppose the recording was cleaned before the release of this CD and could have been included here, too. Do you know if this version is cleaned up, compared to the original '87 CD?

Another case of radio playing a faster paced club mix of a song, I never heard the slow version until I started collecting it. In this case all I ever heard on the radio was the Jonathan Peters Radio Mix, which is 4:18.

I am noting the 4:20 Ed states as the single version, and the JP Radio Mix (Hot Mix) as the radio hit version. One of the reasons the song was so popular was the remix. It had its own CD release

In reference to the radio edit, it is 4:03 actual running time and is an official one in the UK.

This one must've been market specific. I was working in top 40 when
this was a hit, and for at least the majority of its chart run, we always
played the 4:23 Radio Edit from ASCD-3707. This was also true of
other stations I heard in my area. At some point, we switched over to
the Hot Remix on ARPCD-3747. I'll post details on both of my promo
CD singles as soon as possible.

Here are the details for two of the three promo CDs I have. I'll dig up the third one (ARPCD-3747) soon.

ASCD-3707
1. Radio Edit (listed 4:04; actual 4:20)
2. Radio Edit (Instrumental) (listed 4:04; actual 4:25)
3. Call Out Research Hook

Arista promo CD-R
1. Remix Edit (listed 4:19; actual 4:18)

The "Remix Edit" is the same as the "Hot Remix" (aka Jonathan Peters remix).

Thanks to some details left by our friend Jim, I can report that KC101 (the station where he worked) played the uptempo remix.

So, is there a difference between the U.S. Radio Edit
(4:20) and the Album Version? I'm not hearing one.

The Hot Remix or Remix Edit is all I remember hearing at
the time of release.
