Hey everyone - I've got a question about the single version of "The Girl I Used To Know" by Brother Beyond. I have the LP version from "Trust" which sounds very poppy. I just found another version on Amazon's mp3 store, on a digital collection called "Lost Hits Of The 90s" distributed by Capitol. This version is called the US Radio Mix, and it's quite different - darker and more urban sounding (if that's possible on such a poppy record). Does anyone have a promo CD single or other information on which version was issued as the single? I only remember the poppy version. You can hear a snippet of the alleged single version at:

http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Hits-Original-Artists-Versions/dp /B004V4YY9E/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334194653&sr=30 1-1

Thanks for the help!

Frank

I have the promo CD single, EMI DPRO 04521, released
1990.

Three tracks on this one:

1. single version, printed 3:59, actual (with outro
silence) 4:15
2. power mix, printed 4:25, actual (with outro silence)
4:23
3. club mix, printed 7:40, actual (with outro silence)
7:32

The "power" and "club" mixes are really pretty
horrendous, and aren't what's on that Lost Hits
disc. Never heard that version before.

By the way, the song was originally done by Evan Rogers,
who co-produced the Brother Beyond version. It sounds
nearly identical to the poppy "single mix" on the Brother
Beyond single.

Thanks so much for this information. I should have included the song lengths in my first post. It sounds like the time lengths are flipped for my versions. The LP (poppy) version is 4:24 and the alleged US Radio Mix (which I would also describe as pretty horrendous) is 3:51. Can you listen to the link on Amazon above and tell me if this US Radio Mix is the same mix as your power mix? I bet it is, but it's odd that the time lengths are so different.

The poppy version I have sounds just like something Rogers and Sturken were producing back then (Donny Osmond, Rythm Syndicate) so I bet it's the same version.

Thanks!

I checked - completely different mix. Don't know where
that Lost Hits mix came from.

Thanks! I'll trash that crappy version.

It comes from the U.K. CD Maxi, remixed by David Morales (probably why it's called "U.S. Radio Mix").

A number of years ago, I brought up a separate discussion regarding "Girl I Used to Know" - Brother Beyond on another thread. For what it's worth, I think its pretty safe to say the 3:51 so-called "radio mix edited version" appearing on one of the database CDs has never been issued anywhere in the U.S. It's a drastically different mix than the 45 and LP version and the "Power Mix" on the promo CD single.

Is the "Radio Mix Edited Version" (3:51) aka the "U.S. Radio Mix" (3:50)?
