Since it's not documented in the database, here are the details for the promo CD of Jay-Z's "Can I Get A..." (feat. Amil and Ja Rule):

Def Jam (DEF 261-2)
1. Radio Edit (no printed time; actual 4:04)

Was the single only released commercially on 12" vinyl? I've never seen a cassette or stock CD single (other than imports). I've seen 12" copies that have the lead track as "Radio Edit." If this is the same as what's on the promo CD, the database will probably need to be updated to reflect "censored LP version" and "uncensored LP version" for the current CDs.

Aaron:

Yes, Jay-Z featuring Amil of Major Coinz and Ja Rule's "Can I Get a..." was only released commercially as a 12" vinyl single. It was never made available as a CD or cassette single.

Ed, this is interested new information! I'm downloading your 12" dub now. I noticed Pat updated the database to say commercial 12" copies run 4:04, so does that mean we have more than one 12" pressing?

I'll compare your dub to the clean album version and report back.

Ed, the length of the dub you sent runs exactly 5:10, so the database will need to be updated to reflect that time rather than 4:04.

Also, the 12" Radio Edit is not the same as the clean album version I have on my Promo Only CD series. The 12" has sound effects dubbed over the places where the offensive words are removed. The clean version I have, while still running the length of the album version at 5:10, does not have the additional sound effects.

Furthermore, the short "Radio Edit" on the promo CD single does not have the sound effects.

Does anyone know if any of the database CDs contain the 12" Radio Edit?

The version from Top Hits U.S.A. runs 4:52. In listening to
the track, it starts off the same as the promo CD. It may
be from the same source as Ed's 12", only with part of the
intro chopped off, just like the promo CD.

John, can you check to see if it has the sound effects overdubbed where the vocals drop out?

No sound effects, the vocals drop out where the offensive
words are.

Also, the run time is actually 4:49 on the Top Hits copy.

It's not the 12" version then. There are obvious sound effects overdubbed on the vinyl.

Also, since the portion of the intro is only about :10,
it's certainly been documented here that Top Hits often
fades their tracks early.
