my commercial 45 for the ray charles song 'hit the road
jack' issued as abc-paramount 10244 lists the run time on
the label as 2:00 and does indeed run that length....all of
the stereo version dump the song early (1:54-1:57)....the
'singular genius' mono version matches my vinyl 45
perfectly......this 45 run time info s/b added to the
db....thx for the file for reference, paul...

Thanks for the update, Ed. I suspect the slightly shorter stereo run times of Ray Charles' "Hit the Road Jack" may be reflective of an LP length. If I'm not mistaken, the song first appeared on Charles' 1960 vinyl LP The Genius Hits the Road. Does anyone have a copy of that LP who can verify the song's actual run time?

If I recall correctly, this track made it's LP debut on Ray
Charles/Greatest Hits.

Kent is correct. "Hit The Road Jack" was initially a 45-only release, hitting #1
in BB in 10/61. Its LP debut was on "Ray Charles' Greatest Hits", released in
8/62.
