my commercial 45 for the austin roberts song 'something's
wrong with me' issued as chelsea 0101 lists the run time
on the label as 3:07 but actually runs 3:10......the last
words heard on the cd version is 'something in your face,
that keeps me hanging around you, some..' while the vinyl
45 is 'something in your face, that keeps me hanging
around you, something's got a hold on me, the
day..'....in this instance the chorus CAN be grabbed from
another part of the song and most likely tacked on to the
ending....in addition the cd version on 'super hits of
the 70's vol 9' has the channel reversed as compared to
the vinyl 45...thanks john for flipping them for me.....i
wonder if this another instance where the cd version was
dumped early because it was a disc dub.....this 45 run
time info s/b added to the db....

My understanding, from David McLees at Rhino who worked on the project at the time, is that a tape source was used. If I recall, they licensed the track from label former owner Wes Farrell. There was never a problem with the location of the tape.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Austin's next top 40 hit, "Rocky", as the master tapes were trashed after that record company president's (Larry Uttal's) son stopped paying the storage bill in the early '80s, just before the CD era.

like i suspected.....john was able to extend the song by
0:03 by using the chorus loop from earlier in the song to
make the correct running time and version running
3:10....THANKS, john!!
