The mono version that appears on "It's My Party" Bear Family 4-CD box set has a different lead vocal. It is single-tracked while the stereo version is double-tracked. Would this be the 45, making all stereo versions the LP version?

I think I remember reading a while back on the BSN message board that several of Lesley Gore's mono 45s supposedly contain different lead vocals than their stereo counterparts. I'm pretty sure "You Don't Own Me" was one of them.
Anyone have a copy of the 45 handy?

I don't have the 45, but that's the version (the single tracked one) that's on the mono Golden Hits LP, and likely is the 45 as well.

I am checking for Pat tonight but almost the entire mono Lesley Gore Greatest Hits album is a different mix, different than the mono single mixes. On more than one track Lesley is NOT double tracked, (Including You Don't Own Me) and that's probably what Bear used. Those single tracked vocals I believe were unique to the Greatest Hits Album, but I don't know what mix was used on the You Don't Know Me mono album.

I think the other one is "I Don't Want To Be A Loser". So you're saying that the 45s possibly have the double tracked vocals after all?

Yes I'm pretty sure they do. You are absolutely right, "I Don't Want To Be A Loser" is another one that didn't have the double track on the mono Greatest Hits LP. For THAT track I DO have an original 45. But I will double check and report back.

Bumping this thread as I don't believe anyone checked the 45 of "You Don't Own Me" to report if the 45 is the same as the common stereo version, or is it an alternate single-tracked vocal version.

My original Mercury 45 (black label american pressing, on vinyl! not styrene) is double tracked. Dead wax info on this side is YW1 29373 4.
I do know that at least one Gore 45 has two versions released on 45 with the same matrix number, but with the last number changed. There are two pressings of She's A Fool, one of which sounds like it's just one channel of the stereo mix (with matrix YW 29117 4), and the other being the true hit version (with matrix YW 29117 5 and perhaps many others, i do not own either of these but do know ending numbers 1 through 8 exist for this particular record).
Perhaps some of the other ending numbers for the YDKM 45 may contain a different version or mix of this song, too.

Tom:
So are you in essence concluding that your "You Don't Own Me" 45 is the same version as the common stereo one that has appeared on all domestic CDs to date (stereo/mono channel mixing differences notwithstanding)?

my commercial 45 issued as mercury 72206 for the lesley
gore song 'you don't own me' lists the run time on the
label as 2:26 but actually runs 2:27......i only point this
out because the db contains a range of lengths from 2:25 to
2:30.....you'll need to fade the rhino cd 'best of' 2:29
version for 0:03 from 2:24 to 2:27 to effectively re-create
the true vinyl 45 version....and my commercial 45 sounds
just like the rhino cd version 'sunshine, lollipops &
rainbows'.....the vinyl 45 run out groove info is machine
stamped 'YW 29373 2'
