Ed, the 45 version is an all-time favorite of mine. All worldwide CDs include
the stereo LP version.

With new EU rules affecting the "50 years to public domain" status of songs,
it appears that new PD comps (featuring 1963 songs) will not be getting
released in 2014. I saw it suggested somewhere (BSN?) that perhaps these
labels could go *back* in time instead, and have Eric's EU label associates
perhaps release a "1959 Complete Instrumentals", with '63 now off the table.
Since "The Enchanted Sea" was a 1959 charter, the 45 version would surely
be included, if this were to come to pass. I'd say it's our only chance to ever
see the "running water/foghorn" mono 45 intro of 'The Enchanted Sea" make
it to CD.

The 45 version was mono only. It was re-recorded for the
Quiet Village Stereo LP.

ALMOST. Right year, wrong LP. The album, like the single, was entitled "The Enchanted Sea." Both "Enchanted..." as well as the "Quiet Village" LP were released in 1959.

(My dad had this album and I about wore out the "Enchanted Sea" track... having no idea at the time it was the hit single...)

FWIW, the single of "Quiet Village" appeared first on LP in 1957 on "Exotica," first in mono and then re-recorded in stereo.

When "Exotica" was released on CD a few years ago, they used the mono masters... and I have mixed feelings about that. The mono was the "original," but I grew up with the stereo, and thought the mixes and performances were beautiful.

As far as I remember, the version of "Quiet Village" on the "Quiet Village" LP matches the stereo version on "Exotica" (stereo). It always sounded better to me on "Exotica," but that may have been psychological since I knew it was a re-release.

Boy, that MUST have been long unheard, as I've got the LP and CD "Greatest Hits" with the song WITHOUT running water...this is a new one on me..I was born a year after its release and must have been REALLY young when the LP version started getting playing instead (though if you're lucky now, you'll only hear "Quiet Village" if you hear ANY Martin Denny music at ALL.) Excellent tune.

I do have, thanks to mp3s, BOTH the album AND the ACTUAL shorter single of "Quiet Village'..
