Ed, I just found/bought a CD that includes this song, for under 4 bucks,
over on eBay Canada.
Titled "Golden 50's Jukebox", the listing states that the CD was released
back in 1997, as BMG Special Products 44531. It is a V/A, budget release.
I know it is a US CD, because the 10-track comp happens to include
tracks that do appear in Pat's db (like Perry Como's "Ko Ko Mo".)
More good news, as to us hoping the song's original recording appears, is
that all 10 songs on it were released on the RCA Victor label - including
this version of "The Ballad Of Davy Crockett". And BMG held the rights to
RCA recordings, back in 1997.
Although this Walter Schumann track peaked in BB at the relatively high
position of #14 in 1955, the Hot 100 didn't take its most common form
until 1958. As a result, BB combined several sub-charts until then, to best
reflect Top 40 song overall popularity. As a result, it is fairly common to
discover that such mid-50s titles are not a part of Pat's db (as is the case
here.)
Ed, when I get my CD in the mail, I will shoot it out to you, for further
analysis. Please then report back with your findings, when you compare it
against your RCA 6041 stock 45.
