This subject came up in a post about songs that peaked below the top 40 (in this case, regarding Air Supply's "The Power of Love"). I thought it would be more appropriate to give an update in a post dedicated to Air Supply. I'm working on an "Essential Air Supply" compilation with Sony (which will contain 3 single mixes never before released digitally). I had mentioned that only a digital release was in motion, but that people within Sony were pitching the Sales Team on releasing this in the CD format. (After all, aren't most Sony "Essential" compilations released in CD format?) Anyway, I finally got my answer today, and here is what they said:
"Unfortunately at today's meeting, the Legacy Sales team rejected the CD version but will monitor the sales activity at digital and circle back to the Physical release if warranted."

Thank for the update, Gordon. I can't help though but question the
sales team's decision to not issue the upcoming Air Supply
Essential compilation on CD at this time. To me, it makes no sense
to base this decision on the monitoring of digital download sales given
that longtime fans of the duo are likely more "old school" in that they're
still accustomed to buying their music on a physical format!

That does suck. Gordon did mention a future budget CD
release that is supposed to include a couple of b-sides as
well as 45 versions. Is there anyway Gordon you can update
us once that disc is released? That may be the purchase
some of us make.

Yes, I'll keep you updated on that budget CD's release. It will have 2 of the 3 single versions I mentioned would be on "Essential" - "Every Woman in the World" and "The Power of Love". "Sweet Dreams" isn't on the CD at all (I wasn't responsible for that decision!) but its single version is on a couple of import CDs.

That's a both curious and disappointing decision to release Essential Air Supply only digitally. If there were a physical CD, I would buy it; but if it's only going to be available digitally, I will only purchase two or three tracks, since I already have the others on CD.

The Essential digital download release is now available.
Any word on when the budget single CD release will be
released?

There is an upcoming two disc Air Supply hits compilation that Real Gone Music will be releasing on CD in June 2016 that may include those single versions.

Yes, the Real Gone CD will be the CD equivalent of what I worked on with Sony, which was released on iTunes (no CD) two years ago under the title "Essential Air Supply". It's the same 30 songs, same sequencing, same single versions, and the same mastering. It's just a new album title, and with liner notes. But now available in lossless format.
